Who knows NEN 7522?

“Normal users don’t search for NEN 13765,

but search for related norms to fire safety”

If you know the norm number you will find it: skip this talk

If you don’t know the norm number: watch this talk!

Which norm might be relevant for me?

1. The Problem

6 months??!?!?!

What about 6 days???

Prototypes?!?!?!

What about near production?

Simplicity is key!

Unlock NEN data: Yes we can!

For NEN: better findable standards = wider standards adoption = more use = more impact

Or

Not findable standards wider adoption more use ≠ more impact!!!

It is fundamental for NEN: (Better) Findable Standards.

2. Simple Solution:

Standards-based Norm Summaries

Norm Summaries:

  • are generated for all Norms.
  • …are stored in an open standards based template. (Schema.org)
  • …are published in a RDF triplestore with API’s. (SPARQL, Elastic Search).

  • …are fundamental for many search applications. (text search, serendipity, recommender)

3: The Project (implementation)

Part 1 - Fundamental: Norm Summary generation and publication

  • “Near production ready” - No regret investment

Part 2: Search Applications “on top of”

  • So many opportunities - We did:
    • Querying & Text Search (out of the box - “for free”)
    • Serendipity Search (experimental)
    • Recommender System (experimental)
