Women in the Olympics

Research Questions
What is the change in female participation over the past 120 years broken down by area of the world and then, even more zoomed in, by country?
How has the change in female participation evolved over the past 120 years for each sport?
Motivation
News and research about the dataset:
The dataset and its importance has been recognized, but scientists are struggling to effectively compare different breakdowns of the data. The dataset's scope is so large (the number of years, countries, and sports) that it is difficult to quickly see all of the comparison cases. As I found on Immersion Analytics' website, "Scientific research confirms that immersive technologies enable you to absorb 3 times as many data points as you presently can using flat screen technology." Therefore, I think that presenting and analyzing this information in VR will be immensely beneficial.
In-Class Activity
Milestones and Deliverables
2/15: Virtualitics is downloaded, and I have a basic understanding of the software and its capabilities
2/17: the dataset has been exported from Kraggle to Virtualitics
2/24: have a visual representation of how the percentage of women competitors has changed over the years
3/01: have a more detailed visual representation of how the percentage of women competitors has changed over the year by area of the world and then by country
3/03: finalized and executed (on that date) the class activity (see below for details)
3/08: have a different perspective of the visual representation of how the percentage of women competitors has changed over the years by having a sport comparison
3/10: a page under the Virtualitics page in the Wiki with this example of a virtual museum layout of the graphs and charts depicting female participation over the past 120 years in the Olympics; a confirmation that the Virtualitics commentary on the Wiki is consistent with my experience; special exhibit in the virtual museum that features collaboration takeaways from class activity
