*NOTE: students are NEVER pulled out during this time for any reason

15 minutes per group, 2 groups daily
Below Level 4 times per week
On/Above Level 3 times per week
By classroom teacher for Tier 1
- Begins with unpacking the learning target
- Identifies Tier 2 Vocabulary
- I DO, WE DO, YOU DO Model of Instruction (Gradual Release)
- Direct Instruction of ONE Comprehension SOL and ONE Vocabulary SOL occurs during this time
- Teacher connects students to the learning through anchor charts and graphic organizers
- Teachers expose students to SOL stem questions daily
- All students read and manipulate ON GRADE LEVEL text during shared reading
- All students have access to the text to markup, highlight, underline, and more
- ALL students must participate in Shared Reading (no pull out during this time)
- Students are placed into small groups based on reading levels from Jan Richardson Assessment.
- All students must work with books not passages
- Teachers select appropriate book for groups based on Jan Richardson Level.
- Teacher delivers instruction using Jan Richardson Guided Reading lesson plans for each small group - with the goal of seeing each group 3 times per week
- While teachers work with small groups, students must engage in:
- Independent Reading - daily in which student practices the same skill from shared reading with a book at their instructional level
- Lexia Reading - daily so that students are working at a differentiated level to meet and exceed their learning needs
- Writing - Continue working on current writing assignment
- Begins with unpacking the learning target
- Identifies Vocabulary
- Shared Writing - I DO, WE DO, YOU DO Model of Instruction (Gradual Release)
- Direct Instruction of Writing and Grammar SOLs AND the writing process occurs during this time
- Teachers teach the genre of writing by unpacking a piece of writing together to identify the organziational pattern of the genre.
- Teacher connects students to the learning through anchor charts and graphic organizers
- Teacher models good writing for students by creating parts of the writing with students as a class
- Teacher engages in weekly writing conferences with students giving authentic feedback
- Students move through the writing process producing a finished product bi-weekly and adding it to their portfolio
