FAFSA/CADAA

WHAT is it?

A financial aid application. It applies to any school:

public/private/trade/2-year/4-year

WHY fill it out?

You’ll get an email that tells you if you are eligible for FREE MONEY from CA colleges, Federal grants, Federal Work Study PLUS your college uses it to determine aid

DEADLINE is March 2!

California law requires ALL seniors to apply for financial aid or fill out an Opt-Out form.

Cal Grant

Students must meet income, assets and GPA requirements and attend college in California. Your Cal Grant GPA is your grades from your 10th & 11th grade years minus PE and ROTC.

  • Cal Grant A – Family income, need based, 3.0 GPA, up to $9,220 at private schools, covers tuition at CSU ($5,742) and UC ($12,570) campuses, $4000 at non-WASC accredited for-profit colleges
    • Cal Grant A can be placed on hold while a student attends a community college

  • Cal Grant B – Family income, high need students, 2.0 GPA, $1,648 access award for 4 years, tuition award for your second – fourth year in college. May be used at community college, then transferred to 4 yr.

  • Cal Grant C – need based for use at community college ($1,094) if enrolled in an occupational or technical program, career, or technical school.

  • Scholarship/Grant= Free Money
  • Scholarships– merit based, eligibility requirements to maintain
  • Grants -need based, often awarded based on your family’s financial situation.
  • Some scholarships & grants are a combination of merit and need.
  • When you receive an award be sure you understand what you need to do, if anything, to receive it or continue receiving it.
