How do I use my approved academic accommodations during the semester?

3 of 7

  • After your intake interview, your approved accommodations document will be sent to your Rider email from Accessibility@rider.edu
  • The approved accommodations document will look like the example in this slide
  • Approved accommodations are valid for your entire time at Rider University
  • At any time you can request a meeting with our office to discuss additional accommodations
  • Any additional approved accommodations will be added to your document and sent to you
  • Please be sure to keep this document in your records because it is used to help you request accommodations every semester

Next Step: Fill out Letter of Accommodation Request Form (LOA)

  • Once you have received your approved academic accommodations document, you may proceed to filling out your Letter of Accommodation Request Form
  • Each semester you need to submit your Letter of Accommodation Request form for any classes for which you want to use your accommodations
  • Form found on our webpage: www.Rider.edu/SASS under Current Students tab
  • Please copy accommodations exactly as they are written on your approved academic accommodations document to the LOA request form
  • SASS will send you and your professors an email from RUAccommodations@rider.edu with your LOA
  • Professors are instructed to reply all to acknowledge the receipt of your LOA
  • If a professor does not reply all within 48 hours, it is the student’s responsibility to remind them via email and make sure to copy SASS on that email as well
  • Each semester, you will have to decide which accommodations you want/will be most appropriate for your classes
  • For example, if one of your classes does not have timed assessments, you do not necessarily need to request extended time (even if you are approved for it), as it is not applicable to the class

Filling out your LOA Request Form: Step by Step

  1. First, add your Name and Last Name, then your Bronc ID #
  2. Next, add the semester you are requesting accommodations for
  3. Next, add Course Name and Section. Make sure to add section number so that it is clear to the professor which class you are in. For instance, PSY 110 01
  4. When listing all of your approved accommodations you are requesting for the course, please remember to copy the accommodations exactly how they are written from your approved academic accommodations document. For instance, writing “extended time” is not sufficient or clear as to how much time you actually need for the class (instead, specify 50% or 100% extended time)
  5. If you have multiple classes, click “Yes” and repeat the same process for each class

Example of a Letter of Accommodation

  • The LOA will include the date, your professors name, your disability service provider, your name, and the course and section number

  • It will include your approved accommodations and any other additional information that either you or the professor will need to know

  • This is the document both you and your professor will receive from RuAccommodations@rider.edu

Final Reminders

  • Please remember to read all emails from Student Accessibility and Support Services about important reminders and processes. Our email address is Accessibility@rider.edu
  • Review your approved academic accommodations document before submitting LOA Requests each semester
  • Accommodations are not retroactive, meaning that they apply from the date the professor receives the LOA. For example, if you submit a LOA in October for 50% extended time, the extended time will not apply to a test you took in September. The accommodations will be applied from when the professor receives the LOA.
