Statement of Intent

What are we trying to achieve?

There is abundant and compelling evidence that connecting experiences and learning in the primary years with the ‘world of work’ and making connections between them, has a long term positive measurable effect on earnings. This is a blunt measure but indicates greater success in education and the workplace. In addition, some studies link these experiences with greater achievement and better engagement with school and reduced likelihood of being ‘NEET’. Our school endeavours to develop a culture of embedding ‘why we are learning this’ throughout our primary offer to contextualise why we learn what we learn and highlighting the links between real roles and the skills and knowledge that the children develop.

This is merely a sample statement that gives you something to work from. Ideally this page should be written following a discussion with staff, SLT and possibly governors?

Plan for action

How are we trying to achieve our aims?

We will use some of the following strategies to embed career related learning into our school culture:

  • Use of Spark resources in lessons
  • Embed CRL resources from Spark in displays and the classroom
  • Encourage visitors into school to talk about their roles
  • Engage in STEM events held by local organisations

This is not designed to be an exhaustive list of everything going on, it serves instead as a simple, stark, reminder of the key strategies that we should see in school if we are doing what we plan to do. Delete and add as appropriate

Snapshot of current activity

Add a screen shot here of the tracker that shows all the activity in school. Latter pages of this document will also show photos and comments that evidence what has happened. You can update this as often as is practical but has termly makes sense

Overview tracker

Which subjects have had Spark resources built into the lessons?

Add a screen shot here of the tracker that shows which subjects and lessons have had Spark built into them. For some it is a screen shot of a shared electronic spreadsheet, for others it may even be a photo of a piece of paper on the staff room wall. Whatever process you have identified to monitor staff are using it, show it here and update half termly?

EYFS

Use the following pages to record evidence of what is going on in school (ideally referenced in the action plan and trackers). It may be: simple snapshots to show a display, a screen shot of a role that was used in science, or a picture of a visitor but this allows you to show hoe CRL is being embedded according to the long term plan.

We have created one page per age/stage but delete or duplicate as required. Some people like to add more pages (one per term?) for each year group
