Jaycee Johnson - Music & Puppetry

Using puppets in the fine arts classroom is fun, easy, and motivating for students.

My puppet, Big Pig, in a first grade class as part of a retelling unit for my first graders.

Why should I consider using puppets?

Puppets are a great tool!

  • Ask questions or explain concepts
  • Give teachers freedom of action
  • Tangible examples of real life things.
  • Comfort nervous or shy students
  • Capture students attention

Music & Puppetry - Tips and Tricks

  • Don’t use with older students.
    • There are a few exceptions to this rule.
  • Anything can be a puppet!
  • Puppets are people too. (Well… Sort of!)
  • Don’t force it!
  • USE STORIES! Puppets make stories come to life!

My name is Globie and I can be a puppet too!

I can teach you about the planet that we live on! Or… we could talk about shapes! Oh, I LOVE shapes!
