The Nile River

The first Egyptians lived on the banks of the Nile. They lived in total isolation from the rest of the world. Great deserts, seas and dangerous cataracts kept them in seclusion. These ancient people used the Nile for multifarious purposes: agriculture, bathing, cleaning, and transportation. Irrigation systems helped the Egyptians to grow more crops. In fact, Egypt is known as "the gift of the Nile." (source 1)

Family Life

Family life was highly respected. Children were regarded as blessings. We can say that society was somewhat discriminatory, because women were supposed to obey their husbands. However, they were equal to males in certain respects. They could participate in business deals, gain ownership of land, and were allowed to represent themselves in court cases. Young boys usually learned the trade of their fathers. Women tended to household needs. (source 1)
