SURVEY

According to the Tamil Nadu government, 64,583 sanitary workers are employed with 15 corporations, 121 municipalities, 528 town panchayats, and 12,525 village panchayats in the state.

According to other sanitary workers in Chennai, atleast 100 sanitary workers in the city may have been infected with COVID-19. “As many as 70 sanitary workers were infected with COVID-19 only in Pullianthoppe area in Chennai,” said a sanitary worker in Chennai.

Around 30% of the workers have been infected with COVID-19 and none of them have received any financial assistance from the government.

Either by burning or deep burial (incinerated or buried at a depth of at least 10 feet from the Earth’s surface in order to prevent infection.)
