The Level III language course focuses on the continued development of communicative competence in the target language and understanding of the culture(s) of the people who speak the language. It assumes that the students have completed a Level II course or are at a Novice-Mid to Novice-High level of proficiency.

Electronic devices should not be out, on or in use at any time during the school day to include while on school bus transportation. Examples include, but are not limited to, cellphones, tablets, headphones, earbuds, smart glasses, smart watches, and/or other similar electronic devices. Electronic devices MUST be kept in a backpack or locker, and not anywhere on a student’s person. Electronic device ringers, alerts, and alarms should be turned off.

The goal of a modern language class is to teach students strategies to be an effective communicator. Therefore, you will be assessed through the following modalities: Interpersonal speaking/writing, Interpretive (print/audio) and presentational.
Students will have one reassessment opportunity per assessment (60%category). They must be completed prior to the next assessment. The maximum grade for a reassessment is 90. Reassessments will not result in a lower grade than the original grade. The student and teacher will develop a remediation plan/ contract to address areas of deficiency prior to the reassessment.

Missing Assignments: Assignments should be turned in on time. Students are expected to complete all assignments that measure mastery of learning standards. Missing work will be marked as Missing until it is submitted. Students may turn in missing assignments within the mastery window to show their understanding ( before the Summative Assessment date for the unit). Once submitted, work will be evaluated for mastery of standards, not for punctuality, but repeated missing work may result in intervention steps such as parent contact or tutoring recommendations.
Homework: The purpose of homework is for students to practice and review what is being studied in class. Written homework may not always be assigned; however, students are strongly encouraged to study and review class material—such as vocabulary, grammar, and culture—for a minimum of 10–15 minutes each day. Consistent review will help students prepare for assessments, whether announced or unannounced.

Absentee: If a student is absent, it is their responsibility to find out what they have missed. The weekly agenda and class PowerPoint will be posted in Google Classroom, which should be the first place they check upon returning from an absence. Students are expected to make up all work in a timely manner.
Restroom: Students may use the restroom only in true emergency situations, and they are strongly encouraged to take care of bathroom needs during class transitions. A pass will be granted for emergency cases at the teacher’s discretion, but permission will not be given during the first and last ten minutes of instruction.

In order to accomplish a safe and positive environment that is conducive to learning, all students must abide by school and classroom rules. If a student chooses not to abide by these guidelines, he or she will be held responsible and accountable for it. Please observe all rules in the student handbook and code of conduct.
