1. Confirmation by consequences
“Theories are confirmed by their consequences”

- and the more unlikely the consequence initially, the more it confirms the theory

2. The proportional syllogism
The syllogism:
All men are mortal
Socrates is a man
Therefore, Socrates is mortal
The proportional syllogism:
99% of men are mortal
Socrates is a man
Therefore, Socrates is mortal
Williams-Stove justification of induction:
The vast majority of large samples match the population in composition
This is a large sample
Therefore, this matches the population
That is, the population (probably) matches the sample
