Connecting to Each Other
United in Love is the Defining Characteristic of the Church
John 17:20-23 - “20 My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one - 23 I in them and you in me - so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”
Tonight we will take a look at the first-century church and their Fellowship of Believers.

The Fellowship of Believers
Acts 2:42-47 - “42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.”

Serve beyond the ministries
I Peter 4:10 – “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace”
Let’s be diligent to look for those to serve!
Serving Your Children
Our Children Have Spiritual Needs
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 - “And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”
Serving ALL Children
Psalms 145:4-7 “One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness. They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.”

Serving the Household of Faith
Galatians 6:9-10 - “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and ESPECIALLY to those who are of the household of faith.”
Build Connections / Strengthen the Body
Ephesians 4:15-16 says “Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.”
Serve Each Other
Romans 12:10 “Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.”
Generational Faithfulness
Psalms 145, “One generation shall commend your works to another …”
More is Caught than Taught
Generational Faithfulness
II Timothy 1:5, “I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.”
Generational, not Accidental
Conclusion
I Peter 4:8-11 - “Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies - in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”
