prep: cut short section of butcher block
Measure the distance between the left and right walls as shown here. From this measurement deduct 1.75”. For example, if the wall length is 109.5” then 109.5” - 96.25” = 13.25”
From a 4 ft section of butcher block cut a piece that corresponds to the length of the wall minus 96.25”. Use a fine tooth blade for a clean cut.

CUT

prep: join 2 sections of butcher block
Attach the short section of butcher block to the the 8 ft section with the (previously cut) sink cutout. Note the orientation of the two sections: the sink cutout should be closer to the front and the short section of butcher block is added to the left. Use a dowel jig, dowels and wood glue to join the two sections. Clamp with two 10 ft pipe clamps and leave glue to dry overnight (don’t forget to wipe all glue from the surface using a damp rag). Once the glue has dried, remove the clamps and sand the joint smooth using a fine grit sanding disk (180 and upwards)
Use care when moving this assembly to avoid breaking it at the seam.
SHORT BUTCHER BLOCK SEGMENT
8 FT BUTCHER BLOCK SEGMENT WITH SINK CUTOUT
Mark and drill the dowels for the last section of countertop. Align a 4 ft section of butcher block as shown. Using a dowel jig, mark and drill the dowel holes on both segments. But do not glue this last section yet.

install wall cabinets - 30” cabinets
Draw a line on the wall 19.5” above the top of the base cabinets.
Make sure it’s level. The 19.5” distance takes into account the 1.5” thickness of the butcher block countertop.
Install a 30” 1x2 spacer on the right wall (bottom of the board should be on the line)
Install a 30” x 36” wall cabinet (12” deep) against the spacer (bottom aligned with the line)
Install another 30” x 36” wall cabinet (12” deep) against the left wall (bottom aligned with the line)
