  • Ask newcomers if they would like to be added to the contact list and pass along contact information to the Contact List Coordinator.✅
  • Ask if newcomers would like to receive paper or electronic “Welcome Newcomer!” packet and collect email or physical address to which it should be sent.✅
  • Pass along addresses to Literature Chairperson [or whoever sends the literature] ⛔
    • Suggested update: Send the newcomer the list of our 4 daily readers with a link to the Al-Anon bookstore.

  • The Host solicits a volunteer before the meeting opens.⛔
    • Suggested update: During the Business Meeting (since there are hardly anyone present in the pre-meeting.)

Funding Contributions

  • The last time the Finance Committee met, we reassessed the funding needs for an increase of Zoom participation and prudent reserve. The following was adapted after consulting the WSO:
    • $1100 Prudent reserve
    • Cut WSO contributions from monthly to quarterly (as suggested by the WSO representative)
  • In May, the prudent reserve was updated to $2000 due to Chase’s monthly balance requirement of $2000 saving SDR $225/year!
  • Due to the increase in contributions from our members, we have an excess of funds that can be distributed to our new area (GEA - Global Electronic Area) and our District (District 9 - All electronic and phone meetings occurring 5am-8am EST)
  • Currently we contribution to WSO is 10% of our beginning balance every quarter.⛔
    • Suggested update: Increase the frequency of contributions to the Al-anon to every other month in this order:
      • 10% to WSO (Jan and July)
      • 10% to Global Electronic Area (Mar and Sep)
      • 10% to District 9 (May and Nov)

Summary of Finance Committee Suggestions for Group Conscience Vote at the November 30th Business Meeting

  1. Newcomer Program Funds Request:
    • Allocate $97.87 to purchasing 40 Newcomer packets for the Treasurer to distribute throughout the year.
      • (Newcomer Packet: $1.40 each x 40 = $56; Shipping: $10; Envelopes: $2.67 for 40; Stamps: $0.73 each x 40 = $29.20)
  2. Newcomer Host Updates:
    • Replace “Post link to Newcomers webpage on Alanon.org in the chat.” with “Send the link to the SDR Newcomer Welcome Google Docs Site to the newcomer.”
    • Replace “Pass along addresses to Literature Chairperson [or whoever sends the literature]” with “Send the newcomer the list of our 4 daily readers with a link to the Al-Anon bookstore.”
    • Replace the term of service from “one meeting” to “3 months”
    • Replace How Position Gets Filled from “The Host solicits a volunteer before the meeting opens.” to “Select during the Business Meeting” (since there are hardly anyone present in the pre-meeting.)
  3. New 7th Tradition Contribution Schedule:
    • Increase the frequency of contributions to Al-anon from contributing 10% of our beginning balance (as long as the contribution does not dip below the prudent reserve of $2000) quarterly to the following schedule:
      • The WSO (Jan and July)
      • The Global Electronic Area (Mar and Sep)
      • The to District 9 (May and Nov)
    • After a year, consider increasing contributions to 20%.
