Things to do BEFORE Track starts?

  • RankOne Online Forms (UIL Packet, Emergency Card, and Medical History Form)
  • Physical on file with coaching staff
  • SWAY Test

What do I Need for Track?

  • Water Bottle
  • Running Shoes--does not have to be fancy. Brooks, ASICS, New Balance are the best brands.
  • Spikes are recommended (event specific)
  • Watch--Strongly recommended, GPS is a bonus for distance runners
  • School issued sweats–Look at daily forecast when you get up in the morning
  • Good work ethic and a positive attitude!

Beanie or Headband are critical in cold weather!!

Mandatory Practice

Runners must attend practice daily. You will not participate in meets if you are not at practice regularly.

  • 800-2400 Runners:

Monday-Friday 7:30AM-8:45AM

  • 100-400 Sprinters:

Monday-Friday 7:40-8:50AM, Monday and Friday have 4:25PM option

  • Hurdlers:

Monday-Friday 4:25PM-5:30PM

  • Field Events: During Period

Mandatory Practice

Exceptions:

  • On meet day

  • Days we don’t have school

  • Communicate with coach for every absence/tardy BEFORE practice!!!!

Locker Room

  • Girls in athletics will use their athletic locker

  • Girls in PE will use their PE locker

  • Not in PE but in school will be given a locker if needed.

Bus Rides to Meets

  • Runners will ride the bus to the meet, but you may sign them out after their final race is over with a girls coach.

  • We will have a bus that brings the girls back from the meet.

Pay attention to where we are in the meet. The order of events will be on the team shirt.

Must remain in team camp when not competing or warming up

You must sign out after your final event if you are going home with your parents

Mid/Distance: 2400, 1600, 800

Sprints: 400, 200, 100, 4x100, 4x200, 4x400

Hurdles: 300H, 100H

Field: SP, Discus, HJ, TJ, LJ, PV

Amount Allowed to Travel

  • First Meet is unlimited entries, however safety first at field events. Ex) can’t make the LJ pit

  • 8-6-4-4-3: 8 runners the next meet, then 6 etc.

  • Cuts are made by distance jumped, height jumped, and track times

Injury Protocol

Injuries are a part of sports. We make every effort to support and guide each athlete through their injury.

LISD MS Athletic Handbook Protocol for dealing with injuries:

1) Let your coach know

2) Sign up to go see the VRHS trainerLicensed professionals 7:00am-7:30am

3)Get referred to your family doctor if necessary

*LISD MS Athletic Handbook POLICY: Parent notes to sit out of competition or practice will only be accepted for 2 days. After this time period, a doctor’s or trainers note must be submitted.

Chain of Command

If there is an issue that you are unhappy about, please follow the chain of command when making an effort to address it. This communication can occur with an email, a phone call or a zoom meeting.

First - Have your child communicate with her team coach.

Second - Contact your daughter’s team coach.

Third - Contact Coach Hunt

Fourth - Contact your daughters AP or Dr. Ellis

Last - Contact the LISD Athletic Director.

Eligibility

  • If a student is ineligible, they will not be able to ride the bus or hang out on the field with the team at a meet. They are allowed to support, but it is not mandatory
  • After a 6 weeks grading period, students must have a 70 or higher in all classes in order to be eligible to participate in any UIL activity.
  • Students can only lose eligibility after a 6 week grading period.
  • Students can regain eligibility if they are passing ALL classes after a 3 week and 6 week grading period.
