Wider Curriculum

Over the next few weeks the children will be learning:

  • Key information about significant nurses from the past (Florence Nightingale, Mary Seacole, Edith Cavell) and the impact they had on nursing.
  • How to group animals into categories.
  • What animals need to survive.
  • The life cycles of a variety of animals as well as the offspring they have.
  • How to draw inspiration from their environment in their artwork.
  • How to use a range of materials and techniques to make sketches.

English

Our focus book for next half term are:

In Writing the children will be learning to:

  • Extend their sentences using adjectives and conjunctions.
  • Write a diary
  • Write different sentence types
  • Write an information text

Reading

Over the this half term, the children will be practising a range of reading skills. These include:

  • Identifying key words from a question.
  • Skimming and scanning for key words.
  • Answering retrieval questions (Who? What? Where?)

Please remember to read 5 times a week and record it in your child’s reading diary.

Maths

This half term, the children will be learning about:

  • Numbers to 100
  • Partitioning numbers into tens and ones
  • Number bonds
  • Methods for adding and subtracting (to and within 100)

PE

Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school every day. Your child will need the correct P.E kit: black shorts/ tracksuit bottoms, white t-shirt and trainers/plimsolls.

PE is on the following days:

  • Owls: PE Monday, Swimming Tuesday (starting the 19th September)
  • Foxes: PE Monday, Swimming Wednesday (starting on 20th September)

Home Learning

Reading - Reading diaries are to be handed in every Monday morning. Please read with your child at least five times a week.

English

The children have usernames and passwords for all of the above websites. Please ask your child’s class teacher if you are having trouble accessing any of these.

Please continue to practise reading and spelling the Year 2 Common Exception Words.

Reminders

  • Please ensure all clothing is labelled.
  • Please ensure that your child has a water bottle in school every day.
  • Please ensure that your child has a weather appropriate coat.
  • Please check your child's bag/Google Classroom daily for letters and other information.
  • If your child has a packed lunch, please ensure that it is a healthy meal - no chocolate or cakes (including donuts).

Assessment

At various points throughout the year, your child will be assessed in order to determine the next steps in their learning. This may take a range of forms including: termly assessment tests, informal quizzes, listening to reading, independent writing and many more.
