Plan As you move through each phase, plan what you will do based on input and ideas from your group or class. You won’t be able to plan your entire challenge before you start. Rather, use the information from each phase to help you plan the next phase as it begins.

Document and Reflect For each phase, document what happens, reactions, opportunities for future investigations, and reflections. These will help you as you plan the following phases.

Big Idea Challenge Based Learning starts with identifying a big idea. The big idea should be something important to your lives such as community, water, gender equality, or climate change. What are you interested in examining? What broad concept will you focus on? Use the Sustainable Development Goals for ideas of global challenges that could be relevant to your community.

Investigation Planning Select how many investigations you will complete. For each investigation, identify a guiding question. Then, select an investigation method that is appropriate to answer that question and plan your guiding activities using that investigation method. Make sure to complete at least one guiding activity for each guiding question. Once you have selected your guiding activities, explain why you selected this investigation method and guiding activity to answer your questions.
