The Lord is pleased when I am faithful

5 of 35

The Lord is pleased when I am faithful

SCRIPTURE

12 And again, verily I say unto you, let my servant Robert B. Thompson help you to write this proclamation, for I am well pleased with him, and that he should be with you;

13 Let him, therefore, hearken to your counsel, and I will bless him with a multiplicity of blessings; let him be faithful and true in all things from henceforth, and he shall be great in mine eyes;

The Lord is pleased when I am faithful

Barbara Thompson

Former Member of the Relief Society General Presidency

Most of you work very hard to perform your duty, to keep the commandments, and to obey the Lord. You need to be able to recognize the Lord’s approval. You need to know that the Lord is well pleased and has accepted your offering… God loves you; He is mindful of you; He has a plan for you. He needs you to serve His children. He needs you to be active and faithful and fully participating women [and men] in His Church.

…[W]e know that we must do more than believe in Christ. We must have faith in Him, repent of our sins, be baptized in His name, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, and then we must endure faithfully to the end. We must share our testimonies with others. We must faithfully keep the covenants we have made with God…Let your voice be heard among the faithful as you valiantly declare that He lives, that His Church has been restored, and that the plan of happiness is available to all.

Do What is Right(Hymn Book #237)

MUSIC

1. Do what is right; the day-dawn is breaking,

Hailing a future of freedom and light.

Angels above us are silent notes taking

Of ev’ry action; then do what is right!

2. Do what is right; the shackles are falling.

Chains of the bondsmen no longer are bright;

Lightened by hope, soon they’ll cease to be galling.

Truth goeth onward; then do what is right!

3. Do what is right; be faithful and fearless.

Onward, press onward, the goal is in sight.

Eyes that are wet now, ere long will be tearless.

Blessings await you in doing what’s right!

Text: Anon., The Psalms of Life, Boston, 1857

Do what is right; let the consequence follow.

Battle for freedom in spirit and might;

And with stout hearts look ye forth till tomorrow.

God will protect you; then do what is right!

The Lord delights in integrity

SCRIPTURE

15 And again, verily I say unto you, blessed is my servant Hyrum Smith; for I, the Lord, love him because of the integrity of his heart, and because he loveth that which is right before me, saith the Lord.

20 And again, verily I say unto you, my servant George Miller is without guile; he may be trusted because of the integrity of his heart; and for the love which he has to my testimony I, the Lord, love him.

The Lord delights in integrity

Joseph B. Wirthlin

Former Member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

To me, integrity means always doing what is right and good, regardless of the immediate consequences. It means being righteous from the very depth of our soul, not only in our actions but, more importantly, in our thoughts and in our hearts.

…The rewards of integrity are immeasurable. One is the indescribable inner peace and serenity that come from knowing we are doing what is right…Another reward of integrity is the confidence it can give us in approaching God. When virtue garnishes our thoughts unceasingly, our confidence is strong in the presence of God. When we are doing what is right, we will not feel timid and hesitant about seeking divine direction. We will know the Lord will answer our prayers and help us in our need.

I Believe in Being Honest(Children’s Songbook #149)

MUSIC

I believe in being honest;

I believe in being true,

That honesty should start with me

In all I say, in all I do.

I’ll form good habits in my youth,

To keep my word, to tell the truth,

To speak up in defending right

And keep my name and honor bright.

I believe in being honest;

I believe in being true,

That honesty should start with me

In all I say, in all I do.

The Lord wants us to welcome and accept others

SCRIPTURE

23 And it shall be for a house for boarding, a house that strangers may come from afar to lodge therein; therefore let it be a good house, worthy of all acceptation, that the weary traveler may find health and safety while he shall contemplate the word of the Lord; and the cornerstone I have appointed for Zion.

60 And let the name of that house be called Nauvoo House; and let it be a delightful habitation for man, and a resting-place for the weary traveler, that he may contemplate the glory of Zion, and the glory of this, the cornerstone thereof;

The Lord wants us to welcome and accept others

M. Russell Ballard

Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

[W]e members must help with the conversion process by making our wards and branches friendly places, with no exclusivity, where all people feel welcome and comfortable…I urge you to increase the spirit of friendship and pure Christian fellowship in your neighborhoods. A new convert or recently activated member should feel the warmth of being wanted and being welcomed into full fellowship of the Church. Members and leaders of the Church should nurture and love them as Jesus would.

…The spirit of true Christian fellowship must include everyone. Our understanding of the gospel should help us see clearly that all people are our brothers and sisters, children of our Heavenly Father. Perhaps more of us could emulate this example…We should extend our love far beyond family, close friends, and fellow members of the Church. Our hearts should be open to everyone…“God is no respecter of persons”; we should follow his example in all of our associations with our fellowmen.

- President M. Russell Ballard, “The Hand of Fellowship,”General Conference, October 1998

The Lord wants us to welcome and accept others

M. Russell Ballard

Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

In addition to welcoming and accepting recent converts and less-active members, we need to reach out and extend our friendship to others regardless of whether they are interested in the gospel or not. We must not be too selective in identifying those we feel are worthy or appreciative of our attention. The spirit of true Christian fellowship must include everyone. Our understanding of the gospel should help us see clearly that all people are our brothers and sisters, children of our Heavenly Father. Perhaps more of us could emulate this example.

…We should extend our love far beyond family, close friends, and fellow members of the Church. Our hearts should be open to everyone…“God is no respecter of persons”; we should follow his example in all of our associations with our fellowmen.

I'll Walk with You(Children’s Songbook #140)

MUSIC

If you don't walk as most people do,

Some people walk away from you,

But I won't! I won’t!

If you don't talk as most people do,

Some people talk and laugh at you,

But I won't! I won’t!

I'll walk with you. I'll talk with you.

That's how I'll show my love for you.

Jesus walked away from none.

He gave his love to ev'ryone.

So I will! I will!

Jesus blessed all he could see,

Then turned and said, "Come, follow me."

And I will! I will!

I will! I will!

I'll walk with you. I'll talk with you.

That's how I'll show my love for you.

The Lord commands us to build temples so we can receive sacred ordinances

The Lord commands us to build temples so we can receive sacred ordinances

SCRIPTURE

28 For there is not a place found on earth that he may come to and restore again that which was lost unto you, or which he hath taken away, even the fulness of the priesthood.

39 Therefore, verily I say unto you, that your anointings, and your washings, and your baptisms for the dead, and your solemn assemblies, and your memorials for your sacrifices by the sons of Levi, and for your oracles in your most holy places wherein you receive conversations, and your statutes and judgments, for the beginning of the revelations and foundation of Zion, and for the glory, honor, and endowment of all her municipals, are ordained by the ordinance of my holy house, which my people are always commanded to build unto my holy name.

40 And verily I say unto you, let this house be built unto my name, that I may reveal mine ordinances therein unto my people;

The Lord commands us to build temples so we can receive sacred ordinances

Russell M. Nelson

President of the Church

2018 - Present

We know that our time in the temple is crucial to our salvation and exaltation and to that of our families. After we receive our own temple ordinances and make sacred covenants with God, each one of us needs the ongoing spiritual strengthening and tutoring that is possible only in the house of the Lord. And our ancestors need us to serve as proxy for them.

…My dear brothers and sisters, the assaults of the adversary are increasing exponentially, in intensity and in variety. Our need to be in the temple on a regular basis has never been greater. I plead with you to take a prayerful look at how you spend your time. Invest time in your future and in that of your family. If you have reasonable access to a temple, I urge you to find a way to make an appointment regularly with the Lord—to be in His holy house—then keep that appointment with exactness and joy. I promise you that the Lord will bring the miracles He knows you need as you make sacrifices to serve and worship in His temples.

- President Russell M. Nelson, “Becoming Exemplary Latter-day Saints,” General Conference, October 2018

I Love to See the Temple(Children’s Songbook #95)

MUSIC

1. I love to see the temple.

I’m going there someday

To feel the Holy Spirit,

To listen and to pray.

For the temple is a house of God,

A place of love and beauty.

I’ll prepare myself while I am young;

This is my sacred duty.

2. I love to see the temple.

I’ll go inside someday.

I’ll cov’nant with my Father;

I’ll promise to obey.

For the temple is a holy place

Where we are sealed together.

As a child of God, I’ve learned this truth:

A fam’ly is forever.

The Lord will bless those who strive to obey His commandments

SCRIPTURE

49 Verily, verily, I say unto you, that when I give a commandment to any of the sons of men to do a work unto my name, and those sons of men go with all their might and with all they have to perform that work, and cease not their diligence, and their enemies come upon them and hinder them from performing that work, behold, it behooveth me to require that work no more at the hands of those sons of men, but to accept of their offerings.

55 And again, verily I say unto you, I command you again to build a house to my name, even in this place, that you may prove yourselves unto me that ye are faithful in all things whatsoever I command you, that I may bless you, and crown you with honor, immortality, and eternal life.

The Lord will bless those who strive to obey His commandments

Richard G. Scott

Former Member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

The Lord has the power to bless us at any time. Yet we see that to count on His help, we must consistently obey His commandments… Since we cannot perfectly understand His will, we must walk with faith. He is all-knowing, and His decisions are perfect. The fact that our finite capacity does not let us understand all of His dealings with man does not limit Him from blessing us. His will is our best choice in life, whether or not we fully understand it. When we act using our moral agency wisely, the Lord will act according to His will.

We see such a limited part of the eternal plan He has fashioned for each one of us. Trust Him… Have patience when you are asked to wait when you want immediate action. He may ask you to do things which are powerfully against your will. Exercise faith and say, Let Thy will be done. Such experiences, honorably met, prepare you and condition you for yet greater blessings.

- Elder Richard G. Scott, “Obtaining Help from the Lord,”General Conference, October 1991

Keep the Commandments(Children’s Songbook #146)

MUSIC

1. Keep the commandments; keep the commandments!

In this there is safety; in this there is peace.

He will send blessings;

He will send blessings.

Words of a prophet:

Keep the commandments.

In this there is safety and peace.

2. We are His children; we are His children,

and we must be tested to show we are true.

Hold to His promises;

Hold to His promises,

Heeding the prophets:

Keep the commandments.

In this there is safety and peace.

A patriarchal blessing can give me inspired guidance

SCRIPTURE

92 That from henceforth [Hyrum] shall hold the keys of the patriarchal blessings upon the heads of all my people,

93 That whoever he blesses shall be blessed, and whoever he curses shall be cursed; that whatsoever he shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever he shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

94 And from this time forth I appoint unto him that he may be a prophet, and a seer, and a revelator unto my church, as well as my servant Joseph;

A patriarchal blessing can give me inspired guidance

Julie B. Beck

Former Member of the Young Women General Presidency

You can learn more about your life and mission on earth and the light that is in you by preparing to receive and then studying your patriarchal blessing…When you receive your blessing, you get a glimpse of eternity. You begin to see a picture of what lies ahead for you because your blessing will refer to your eternal purpose and journey…Because a patriarchal blessing is not meant to be a prediction of all that will occur in the life of the recipient, we should seek and follow the guidance of the Holy Ghost to receive greater understanding for our course in life. The teachings of the gospel are always a guide to a full understanding of our destiny and privileges.

…Your patriarchal blessing should inspire you to make changes in your life when they are needed. It contains promises that you can receive only through your faithfulness.

Tell Me, Dear Lord(Children’s Songbook #176)

MUSIC

1. Tell me, dear Lord, in thine own way I pray,

What thou would'st have me say and do today.

Teach me to know and love thy will, O Lord;

Help me to understand thy loving word.

2. I would be guided by thy loving hand;

Would hear thy voice, obey thy blest command.

Each moment just to know that thou art near

Will strength impart and banish ev'ry fear.
