The DDD Budget

  • Once DDD (the Division of Developmental Disabilities) says you are eligible for services, the NJCAT will be completed.
  • NJCAT = New Jersey Comprehensive Assessment Tool: (self-care, behavioral, medical)
  • The answers are assessed and DDD will assign you a Tier letter (A-E)
  • Each Tier letter corresponds to an individualized budget you will receive from the Division.
  • The budget can be used for many different supports and services.

- making new friendships

Living In A Group Home

  • Group homes enable you to live in the community, but still receive help you may need 24 hours a day.
  • Usually in a group home, you will have 2 to 3 roommates, have your own room, or share a room.
  • Some of these housing settings are in a house, others are apartments.
  • Your DDD budget will pay for living in a group home, only if you are enrolled in the Community Care Program (CCP)
  • Your support coordinator will help you find a group home in your area.

Housing Subsidy Program

  • Housing subsidy programs are programs run by the government to help those with disabilities afford decent, safe, clean housing in the community.
  • You are free to choose any housing that meets the requirements of the program.
  • If you receive a housing voucher, you will be responsible for finding a rental unit. Your support coordinator and family will help you.
  • The voucher pays for 70% of the rent. You will need to pay the remaining 30%. Often, individuals use some of their SSI (Supplemental Security Income) to pay for this. [If rent is $1,000 per month, you will need to pay $300.}
