My Vision of a Teacher
Artifact 3
“Culturally responsive teaching should first confront existing instructional presumptions and practices before it proceeds with the more regenerative aspects of reform. It should simultaneously deconstruct and transform, critique and create, correct and direct, reflect and project.” (Gay, 2018, p.60)
Purpose of Education
The essence of the society in America has heavily stemmed from Eurocentric ideals of sovereign autonomy of states, the “inevitability of colonialism, modernization and enslavement” (E. Lezra, personal communication, April 14, 2020), and exclusion of the figurative of the human (Arendt) by incurring all sorts of social debt from producing the “national interest” ideology. This “national interest” ideology imbedded the languages that produce an exclusive “all”, produce the victim groups of stateless people, and produce the concept of “minority problem” (E. Lezra, personal communication, May 7, 2020), which had led to the discussion of social debt.
Therefore, I believe that the purpose of education is to settle that social debt through a transformative pedagogy based on empathy.
The Role of the Educator
I believe the role of an educator within the education system is to be a part of the liberational process, to identify subtle discrimination and problems caused by the systems of power dictating curriculum, and to consistently seek enlightenment that free ourselves from falling into the pithole the discreet totalitarian way of thinking that society has constantly persuade people into believing.
As educators, we are our community’s first line advocates for our students. Teachers act as the catalyst for change in our students’ lives and the mediator to seek materials that the students need to learn to graduate and enter the workforce.
The Kind of Teacher I Hope to Be
I hope I can be the kind of teacher who is a professional role model as a self-directed learner.
I hope I can be the kind of teacher who can show my students the process of learning phases in the format of to know, to think, to feel, to do, and to reflect (Gay, 2018, p.254).
I hope I can be the kind of teacher who can increase my chances of lowering the students’ affective filter in the school community and classrooms, especially the ones described in Part A of my portfolio.
I hope I can use my fluency in Mandarin and my global studies outlook developed throughout my undergrad to serve my classroom.

My Vision of a Teacher
At Plymouth Elementary School, the staff and school community are devoted to learning for all students. We are dedicated to developing the unique potential of each student in a safe, respectful academic environment. We believe that through creating and maintaining a school that is nurturing, positive, and focused, all of our students will be successful. We believe in challenging students to gain an understanding of core academic standards. We are devoted to employing and maintaining a highly-qualified staff.
Using a teamwork philosophy, Plymouth’s mission is to prepare students for their future⎯being academically, socially, and emotionally ready to group up into vital, contributing citizens of a culturally diverse world
After briefly studying Plymouth Elementary’s socioeconomic context, I have been pondering about subtle controversies that I have discovered. Questions that do not seem to have answers consistently come up. Why is there a glaring economic disparity between the elementary school and the surrounding area? Who is the school heavily attended by Latino students when previously the school had predominantly served handicapped students and Caucasian students. Nonetheless, I should keep my assumptions of what happened to Plymouth Elementary in check to prevent a deficit mindset that fails my future students and their parents who trust the education system.

Vision Stemming From My Experience
From experiencing my journey with navigating through educational scenario abroad, scurrying to communicate with my majors’ departments to transfer my study abroad credits to prerequisite of my duo majors, persevering the uncertainties from existential crisis during my last year as an undergrad, scratching original post grad plan and scramble to create a new one due to the emergence of pandemic, feeling the daunting effects of mental burnout, deciding to give myself a break, and returning from the LOA with refreshed mentality, I sincerely hope to assist my students with their journey in navigating this world of cultural diversity and subtle systemic discriminations that has a huge effect of their emotional stability.
Drawing upon the MAT program documents
In hope of lowering my students’ affective filter by creating a safe environment, I aim to foster students’ engagement through multimodal discourse to emphasize their exploration of new ideas. I hope to be a professional role model as a self-directed learner to help identify solutions that can adapt and resolve any problems that reveal in due time and foster an inquiry-based pedagogy.
