What do these words mean for us as learners at OLSM?

Attentive- this means taking time to notice the world around us and what is important in our daily lives, noticing how we respond to others and how they respond to us, paying attention to the needs of others.

Discerning- this means taking time to notice when God calls us to do something for the good of others, noticing the impact of our past choices and working to

ensure we learn from our mistakes.

How does this link to the Jesuit Pupil Profile?

Pupils in OLSM school are growing to be attentive by noticing the big and small experiences and paying attention for God’s calling and discerning in the way they make good choices instead of choosing the wrong path.

Scripture from the Gospel of St Luke

What does this scripture tell us about being attentive and discerning?

Zacchaeus had lived his life taking from others- he had been greedy and unkind.

Meeting Jesus opened his heart to God’s love and how he could be caring to others. He was attentive to God’s call to be generous and compassionate. He was also discerning in choosing to make good choices and showing he was a follower of Jesus through his actions.

Let us pray…Lord,You have given me free will, so I ask you to help me to be attentive to your calling each day. Guide me to be discerning in my choices and to always work hard to show I am a follower of Jesus.

Amen.
