Star Citizen Purchase

First, if you do not already have a Star Citizen account, begin by creating one here. This will create an account using my referral code, which will get you 5,000 credits to assist with your initial in-game expenses. Referral codes cannot be applied after an account is created, so if you wish to use someone else’s code you have to do it prior to creating your account.

After you have confirmed your e-mail address, you can now log-on and select a pledge package. For those of you that are only interested in the single-player game, you can purchase Squadron 42 here. If you are interested in the MMO Star Citizen or wish to purchase both Star Citizen and the single-player campaign Squadron 42, you must determine which starter package to choose from. My personal recommendation is to purchase both games as adding Squadron 42 to a Star Citizen package only costs $15. Purchasing Star Citizen also gets you access to the first person shooter module Star Marine.

Star Citizen

The Star Citizen Privateer is a Star Citizen community covering all things Star Citizen related, but primarily focused on those citizens that live within the shadows. Some citizens of the ‘verse prefer to work in the light, delivering goods, flying escort missions and exploring. We enjoy those things too…for a price! Privateers, Smugglers, Info-runners and Mercenaries can all find a home here.

Star Citizen Missions

In the first episode, you enlist in the United Empire of Earth (UEE) Navy as a rookie pilot in the war against the Vanduul. As you battle the Vanduul, you eventually get accepted into the legendary 42nd Squadron aka Sq 42, a volunteer unit assigned to the Bengal Carrier UEES Paul Steed.

Made up of a ragtag bunch of misfit pilots that seek out battle with the enemy when others run, they are constantly in the hottest battles and often outnumbered. They’re famous for their ability to come out on top regardless of the odds.

Star Citizen MMO

The Aegis Avenger began as a carrier based front line fighter. They were successful at first, but were displaced by ships better suited to the role like the Hornet. When it was removed from its combat role in the UEE Navy, it became a trainer for new Navy pilots and a primary patrol craft for the Advocacy and local law enforcement.

All of the Star Citizen Avengers that we have access to are single seater craft and they come in three base variants, the Titan, the Warlock and the Stalker. There is mention of a two seater model that the Navy uses but it hasn’t been seen in the game yet. The three variants are rumored have a modular cargo area which would allow them to switch to any of the other models.

The Avenger Titan is the basic Avenger hull with the Titan Cargo Module installed. This allows it to function as a light cargo hauler with the solid maneuverability and combat abilities of the Avenger chassis.

The Titan can be purchased by itself for $50 with a self land hangar and 6 months of insurance.

The Aurora MR (Marque) is RSI’s base interdiction model.

The MR comes equipped with two size 1 guns which are not very potent and can have one size 2 missile rack added as an aftermarket purchase that will give it a little more firepower. It comes standard with a size 2 shield, but has the ability to equip up to a size 3 as an upgrade.

Even with missiles added, the MR should not be looking for fights in the ‘verse. At the first sign of danger it should probably try to immediately break contact.

The stand-alone Aurora MR will cost you $25 USD and comes with the ship, a SelfLand hangar and 6 months of insurance.

The Aurora MR SC Stater package comes with Star Citizen, a SelfLand hangar, 1,000 UEC to cover your initial cost of running you ship and 3 months of insurance.

The Aurora MR Star Citizen + Squadron 42 Combo package comes with everything the other package has and adds in the stand-alone game Squadron 42. If you haven’t signed up for Star Citizen yet, make sure you check out our article for those new to the game before you do

The Aurora LN (Legionnaire) is RSI’s attempt to make a cost-effective patrol/combat craft for militias and civilians that need more firepower without the cost of a dedicated combat ship. One of the LN’s strengths is that it keeps the cargo capability of the base Aurora model.

As a combat ship, it is much better than other Auroras but it’s still far behind other combat vehicles.

The Legionnaire comes equipped with two gimballed size 2 weapons, a size 2 missile rack and a size 3 shield generator. It can also equip two fixed size 2 weapons making it the best armed Aurora by far.

The stand-alone Aurora LX costs $35 USD and comes with the ship, a SelfLand hangar and 6 months of insurance.

Star Citizen Crowdfunding

The Origin 300 Series is another versatile line of ships. Origin is more of a luxury ship manufacturer. (You can think of them as the BMW of the Star Citizen universe.) With sleek lines and more speed than the Avenger series, they’ll appeal to those that like the styling of Origin. The 300 Series in its current form isn’t as versatile as the Avenger, and it’s more expensive. It does offer one form of gameplay that the Avenger cannot and that is exploration with the 315P model.

The 315P offers fuel-efficient engines, a scanner and nose mounted tractor beam. If you want to start with an exploration ship, then the 315P is for you. Be aware that the 300 Series is due for a revamp to make it more practical and fix some collision bugs. This could change the 300 Series but the roles that the models fill should not change.

To grab the 315P, buy the Reliant Kore SC Starter package and get a cross chassis upgrade from the Reliant Kore to the 315P. The benefit of this package is it comes with 6 months of insurance instead of the 3 months of insurance that comes with the Aurora and Mustang packages.

The Avenger Titan Renegade is the basic Avenger hull with the Titan Cargo Module installed with a slightly different base weapon loadout and a different paint job. This model was introduced as a part of the “Masters of Flight” series and pays tribute to the famed UEE Advocacy pilot Danny Soloman. Just like the Warlock, this model is not normally available for purchase and must be bought during one of the special sales.

Overall, we feel the Avenger is the best starter ship in Star Citizen.

Star Citizen Alpha Access

If I had to recommend just one single seater package and one multi-crew package, I would suggest the Avenger Titan as the single seater and the Cutlass Black as the multi-crew. They provide the best bang for the buck in the currently available packages.

Ultimately, you’ll have to decide which Star Citizen starter package is right for you based on how much you want to spend and what you see yourself doing when you first start the game.

Once you’ve decided which game package to buy, take a look at our discussion about all the various input devices available to use in Star Citizen.

Chris Roberts Game Developer

Consolidated Outland is pleased to announce that the UEE Planetary Development Bureau has released a number of Claim Licenses for commercial or private construction. Whether you’re looking to settle on a distant moon or a terraformed planet, these claims allow you to officially own a piece of the UEE and enjoy its protection.

Each Pioneer will include a single Claim, changing the question of whether you should build to where you should build.

For over eighty years, the Planetary Development Bureau has been working with planetary authorities to not only oversee the zoning of building plots, but to mediate and supervise the sale of land claims for commercial and private use.

Certain restrictions apply.

Cloud Imperium Games

My suggestions are pretty much the same as my HOTAS suggestions. For much lower entry price into a dual-stick set-up go with two T.16000M flight sticks. The T.16000M allows you to set up the stick for left or right-hand use (which is uncommon) so using one in each hand is much more comfortable. For a higher end loadout go with the Thrustmaster Warthog and a T.16000M. They both use the same sensors so you’ll have a similar feel with both sticks and be able to enjoy the high-end Warthog in your right hand.

Star Citizen Referral

Our main suggestion for those interested in getting into a quality Star Citizen HOTAS set-up is the Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS HOTAS. This is a new HOTAS being sold from Thrustmaster and uses the latest version of their excellent T.16000M stick combined with a throttle. It uses the same sensors on the stick as the next suggestion and costs 1/3 of the price!

For those seeking a high-end experience, we’d suggest the Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog. This is a very high-end HOTAS. It feels expensive and is expensive, but you get what you pay for. The accuracy is similar to the T.16000M which drives a lot of people to the much cheaper option.

There was a Star Citizen HOTAS being worked by Saitek, but it was canceled when the company was bought out. I would still expect a Star Citizen HOTAS specifically for the game to come in later as we get closer to launch.
