Launch Read&Write Gold by Clicking the Purple Puzzle Icon on the top right corner

This will open the Read&Write Gold Toolkit Menu above your screen

“Check it”

Once you click on the “check it” icon, the entire work you typed into your Google doc will be checked for any spelling and grammar errors. Anything that needs editing will be underlined in red. You can put your cursor on each word that is red and click on the “check it” icon for a list of options and suggestions to help you edit.

Don’t forget to unclick the “check it” icon when you are done checking.

“Prediction”

The prediction icon looks like a silhouette. As you are typing a document, press the prediction icon and a list of words it predicts you will need to write next in your sentence will pop up for you to select from. You can type the word or highlight the word you want from the prediction list to insert it into the document you are writing.

“Dictionary”

This dictionary icon looks like an open book. On your document, highlight the word you are not familiar with and click on the dictionary icon and it will give you the meaning of the highlighted word.

“Picture Dictionary”

The picture dictionary icon looks like an image of mountains and the sun. Highlight the word and then press the picture dictionary icon and a picture/visual will show up of the word you highlighted.

3 Text to Image buttons

These are 3 buttons you want to use when you want sentences read aloud to you. Put your cursor at the beginning of the sentence you want read- aloud or highlight all the sentences you want read aloud to you. Then press the play, pause and stop buttons as the computer reads aloud to you.

“Screenshot

Reader”

The screenshot reader icon looks like an arrow inside a dotted square. When you press this icon, the software will read aloud the area you have screened off or “boxed in”.

“Audio Maker”

The audio maker converts your text into an MP3 so that you can listen to it. Select the text you want saved as an MP3 by highlighting it and then press the audio maker icon. The audio file will automatically be downloaded to your device.You can move the file to your google drive to access or to share it with others.

“Web Search”

Searches the web for relevant information for the word you highlight.

“Screen Mask”

Helps you spotlight the area you want to focus on by masking out all the other areas. Press this icon that looks like a monitor to turn the screen mask function on.

“Talk&Type ”

Only works if you have a built in microphone

The talk and type icon looks like a headset. Put your cursor on your google doc and click on this icon. Then check yes to the pop up that asks you if you allow google to access your microphone.Once you agree, then you can talk into your computer and it will do the typing for you. Talk clearly and at a good pace.

“Translator ”

The translator icon looks like two wiggly arrows. Highlight a word then press the translator icon and then it will give you a box with the word translated into many languages. It does not translate sentences, just words.

“Highlighters ”

These are the highlighter icons. You can highlight important points you want to remember in a paragraph by highlighting them in yellow, green, blue, or pink.

“Clear

Highlights”

The clear highlights icon looks like a broom. You use it to get rid of something that you highlighted. Put your cursor over the highlighted words you want to get rid of, then press this icon to erase and undo the highlight.

“Collect

Highlights ”

The collect highlights icon looks like 4 arrows moving in a circular formation. You can collect all the highlighted sentences you have made on your document by clicking the collect highlights icon.This will launch a new google document to open where you will see only your highlighted sentences presented to you as a list.

“Vocabulary”

The vocabulary icon looks like a broken square. First you highlight words in your document. Then you click on the vocabulary icon which will launch a new google document with all the key vocabulary words you highlighted and it will give information on each vocabulary word by providing you with a picture of the word, a definition and also a section for you to write your own notes about the vocabulary word.

“Voice Note”

You can leave yourself a memo about the report you are writing. Highlight the sentence you want to leave a voice memo about. Press this icon and a 1 minute counter will pop up. You can press the record button and then stop it when you are done recording. You can listen, erase or insert your voice memo. on the side of your report by pressing the insert button. Your voice memo audio files will be saved automatically under your google docs under the heading my voice memos.

“Practice Reading Aloud ”

This is the last icon on your toolkit.Highlight the part you want to record yourself reading into the microphone. Press this icon. The highlighted sentence will appear. You can then press the microphone button to record yourself reading that sentence. You can stop, record and listen to your recording and you can also send it to someone.
