Class Rotation

  • During your child’s 4th grade school year, he or she will have two different subject area teachers throughout the day. Math will be taught by Mrs. McIntyre and reading, science, and social studies will be taught by Ms. Solan.

  • Your child will rotate with their homeroom class between Ms. Solan and Ms. McIntyre. Classes are much larger in size in comparison to kindergarten-3rd grade. We currently have 26 students in each class, but we can go up to 32 students. This is due to the state of NC not placing a cap on 4th and 5th grade classes.

  • Although students will be split into homerooms, we see ourselves as one big fourth grade family!

  • Anytime you need to contact a teacher in regard to a specific subject, please contact the teacher in that area.

Student Supplies

  • The Case-it will be your child’s backpack and is required for both 4th and 5th grade. All of your child’s supplies will stay in their Case-it so that they can rotate with their supplies easily.

  • 4th grade students are responsible for their own supplies throughout the year and must replenish as needed.

  • A copy of the supply list is located on the Friedberg Elementary School website. Please make sure your child has all of their supplies ready for the first day of school in order to be successful. We will begin instruction and administering assessments beginning the first week of school.

Behavior Management/ Communication

  • Here at Friedberg, students SOAR by being responsible, respectful, safe, and successful. These school wide expectations provide a solid foundation for the behavior we hope to see daily in our classrooms.

  • We use a point system through the free app, Class Dojo. Students will earn points for maintaining SOAR behavior and completing classroom responsibilities. Students will bank their points until they are able to redeem them for special privileges.

  • Occasionally, students may make poor choices. In the event that this happens, they will lose points and other consequences may apply as well. Consequences may vary as we believe they should fit the behavior. If negative behaviors continue, we will reach out to parents so that together, we can come up with a solution.

  • In addition to managing behavior, Class Dojo provides a platform that allows for consistent, open communication. It will be used to share reminders, newsletters, photos and more. Parents can also message teachers directly when needed.

Attendance

  • You can have excused absences (sick, dr. appt. death, etc..)
  • You can also have unexcused (fair, mall, beach trip, vacations..)
  • HOWEVER, your child can NOT miss more than 16 days of school at all. If they miss more than 16 days they will be placed on the possible retention list.
  • Please refrain from taking your child out early. Any time BEFORE 11:15 your child will counted absent unless you come back to school. They have to be in school for at least 3 hrs and 15 mins.

Attendance continued…………

-Per Davidson County Policy, if your child has run a fever, thrown up, or has had diarrhea, they MUST stay home until all symptoms have stopped WITHOUT the use of medication for a minimum of 24 hours. PLEASE KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME.

- Per Davidson County Policy, your child will be provided five school days for each day missed, in order to complete missed assignments.

-Once your child returns to school, he or she has three days to submit a note in order to have the absence excused. Don’t forget, your child cannot have 5 or more absences to participate in the quarterly PBIS Reward. This includes excused absences.

My Responsibility Sheet

The "My Responsibilities" Sheet is a LIVE Google Document that allows both you and your child to stay up-to-date with assignments that are due each day. Your child is provided a blank hard copy at the beginning of each week and is expected to fill it out daily in each class. As your child completes each assignment, he or she will highlight the assignment to show completion in order to stay organized.

PowerSchool

  • PowerSchool allows for you to check your child’s grades and missing work each day. You can also allow for notifications to alert you when an assignment/assessment has been graded. This is the best way for you to stay up-to-date with your child’s grades and/or missing work in each class. Progress reports will not be sent home in the middle of each quarter. PowerSchool is the main source of being aware of your child’s academic progress.

  • If you have not signed up for PowerSchool, please follow the directions on the PowerSchool form sent home with your child, or contact the front office. Your child has a specific code assigned to them. Good news is that you only have to sign-up once throughout his or her K-12 education while in DCS!
