Origins and Mandates

  • Local Wellness Coordinators arose due to federal mandates and state health initiatives in Texas schools.

Coordinator Responsibilities

  • They ensure schools comply with wellness policies through implementation, communication, and assessment.

Impact on Student Health

  • Coordinators promote student health by aligning programs with national and Texas-specific standards.

Coordinated School Health Model (CSHM)

Legislative Requirements

  • Texas law mandates Coordinated School Health programs in grades K-8 in all districts.

Health Prevention Programs

  • TEA provides programs targeting obesity, cardiovascular disease, and Type 2 diabetes prevention.

Program Alignment and Oversight

  • CSHM aligns with Local Wellness Policy and is overseen by Local Wellness Coordinators and SHAC.
