NOTES:

  • Foreign Language- The two required credits must be in the same language. Students can request a waiver to take additional CTE courses in place of taking 2 years in a foreign language. Waivers should not be requested for students that are wanting to go straight to a 4-year college or university after high school.
  • PE- Life Wellness is a year-long PE/Health course required for all 9th graders (unless they are taking JROTC.. An additional semester of PE required unless the student is on a sports team or in marching band. 
  • Computer Science-Computer Science must be taken any year of high school. It can be taken as a stand-alone required class and can be used to substitute for the 4th Math Course OR the Elective Focus Course OR the 3rd Science course.
  • Focus Elective- 3 credits must be in the same elective group. These classes have a sequence and must be taken in order. Focus elective classes offered 9th grade year are level 1

The Freshman core gives you the option to choose between a Wellness Class or JROTC

Lifetime Wellness is a 9th grade PE class that explores concepts of Health & Wellness as well as basic physical education& sports.

JROTC Participation:

Leadership, character and community service are the core tenets of high school Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps programs, or JROTC. 

IF you take JROTC instead of Wellness , you will still get 3 additional electives in 9th Grade.

SHHS offers advanced courses for academically motivated students, who desire to take their learning beyond the mandatory curriculum and challenge themselves and their peers to perform at their best.

Advanced courses require commitment.  If you are willing to put in the hard work in and out of the classroom, sign up for one or more advanced courses. You must be an independent learner that can work at a faster pace.  You must have grit and be able to face a challenge when the work gets hard.  You must be responsible, be willing to own your mistakes, and grow as an individual and a learner.

SPRING HILL 

SCHOLARS 

ACADEMY

SHSA is a selective program that will admit up to 25 students to each freshman cohort. 

These students will take the 4 Freshman Advanced courses and plan to take 12+ advance classes throughout high school in preparation for selective college admissions. In addition, scholars receive academic planning & application support as well as scheduling priority each year.

How to Join: Confirm your interest in applying to the SHSA when you complete the course request form.

Students not admitted into the academy in 9th grade can take advanced​ freshman classes on a space available basis and will be prioritized for placement based on Teacher recommendations, TCAP scores​ & grades from the 8th grade.
