In 1939, the Spanish Civil War ended
On August 23, 1939 the Molotov- Ribbentrop Pact was signed
On September 1, 1939 Germany invaded Poland
In August 1940, Russia suspended trade to Germany
On June 22, 1941, Germany invaded Russia under the code name “Operation Barbarossa”
In 1945
Russia joined the Allies; Germany was defeated by Russia and the USA
From 1945 to 1989 there was a Cold War between the USSR and the USA
The USSR lost all but Russia in 1989
