Changes Brought About by PAC Advocacy

Teacher Issues:

Reduced 5-step process to 4-step process

Before:

  • Mandatory to approach the teacher first
  • No documentation requirements
  • Unclear timelines
  • 5 steps before final decision

After:

  • Option to have an administrator facilitate from Step 1
  • Written summaries required at each step
  • Clear deadlines: 5-day appeals, 15-20 day resolutions
  • 4 steps to Assistant Superintendent (final)

Student Grade/Record Inaccuracies:

Concern is specifically about a grade or record that you believe is inaccurate or unfair—and you can point to a procedural or factual error

  • Grade doesn't reflect work submitted
  • Clerical or calculation error
  • Grade based on factors outside course standards
  • Record contains inaccurate information

Legal standard for grade changes (Ed Code 49066): A teacher's grade can only be changed if there was clerical/mechanical error, fraud, bad faith, or incompetence.

Process:

  1. Submit written request to the Superintendent/designee
  2. Meeting within 30 days (includes you, district, and employee who recorded the information)
  3. If denied → Appeal to School Board within 30 days
  4. Board meets in closed session; decision is FINAL

Article 30 Simplified (Aug, 2025)

New Grade Challenge Process (Jan, 2026)

⚠️ URGENT SAFETY NOTICE

Mission San Jose High School

TO ALL MSJ PARENTS

SOME PARENT'S ACTIONSENDANGEROUR STUDENTS

Repeated traffic violations during morning drop-off put 1,800+ students at serious risk of injury.

🚸 VIOLATION #1

Dropping Kids on Palm Ave

Parents stop along Palm Avenue and release children into moving traffic. Students run across active lanes. One mistake could be fatal.

⚡ Use designated drop-off zones only.

🚫 VIOLATION #2

Right Turn from Horseshoe

The "No Right Turn" sign on Palm Ave at the horseshoe exit exists for a reason. Turning right drives through an active student crosswalk.

⚡ Exit left only. No exceptions.

Let's keep ALL students safe. 💚

Events Committee Updates

We had an amazing luncheon thanks to Junyi, leading her team of MSJ parents and alumni parents who brought so much food, decorations, and raffle prizes for the teachers and staff. Many FUSD and city officials came to join our event, as they look forward every year to this 16-year MSJ tradition. Many thanks to those who volunteered!

The team even created a recap video. Check it out!

Bike Blender Event

Reboot Your Commute

Early this month, on March 2nd, MSJ had our Reboot Your Commute Event. Alongside many Alameda County Schools, we campaigned to help us fight climate change, stay physically healthy and reduce traffic. We had our popular bike blender return, where you could spin and make a healthy fruit smoothie!

Congrats to Tim Nguyen who won the

$50 Clipper Card!
