UC/CSU eligibility: By successfully completing all A-G courses you will be eligible for admission to University of California and Cal State Universities (Cal State San Marcos, Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, etc.). Doesnt include Private colleges,Trade schools, Junior or community colleges

A: History/social science (“a”) – Two years, including one year of world history, cultures and historical geography and one year of U.S. history, or one-half year of U.S. history and one-half year of American government or civics.

B: English (“b”) – Four years of college preparatory English that integrates reading of classic and modern literature, frequent and regular writing, and practice listening and speaking.

C: Mathematics (“c”) –Three years of college-preparatory math, including or integrating the topics covered in elementary and advanced algebra and two- and three-dimensional geometry.

D: Laboratory science (“d”) – Two years of laboratory science providing fundamental knowledge in at least two of the three disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics.

E: Language other than English (“e”) – Two years of the same language other than English or equivalent to the second level of high school instruction.

F: Visual and performing arts (“f”) – One year chosen from dance, music, theater or the visual arts.

G: College-preparatory elective (“g”) – One year chosen from the “a-f” courses beyond those used to satisfy the requirements above, or courses that have been approved solely in the elective area.

College Course Enrollment

Concurrent Enrollment: Starting your college education as a high school student ( online recommended)

SPA( Student/Parent Agreement Form) - Form submitted for course approval. Need to complete application, activate MSJC account, pick course(s), get parent and counselor/ principals signatures, student submits to MSJC through the student hub. Then register for class on given date from MSJC

Students are responsible for paying fees at the time of registration or you will be dropped.
College Courses can replace Santa Rosa courses ( SRA Counselor approval)
Must pass with a C or better for college credit (D is passing for SRA)
Send Counseling your final grade/ Unofficial transcript

Scan signed document ( SPA form) to student hub before MSJC specified date

Receive email form MSJC with course registration date/time.

( make sure you know the section number for course)

Let’s Talk Options

Private: Not publically funded. Online schools, religious-based universities, Ivy League universities, etc. Popular private schools in CA: USC, USD, Pepperdine, LMU, Point Loma, Stanford, Cal Baptist. Cost more than public universities, but can still offer plenty of scholarships and financial aid.

Cal States: publically funded. Tendency to be cheaper than a UC and have lower test score & GPA requirements for admission. Must meet A-G eligibility for consideration. Offers Bachelors degrees up through PhD programs and some certification and credentialing programs. Popular local Cal States: SDSU, CSU Fullerton, CSU Long Beach, CSU San Marcos.

UCs: publically funded. Slightly more expensive than a Cal State, but cheaper than most private universities. Entrance requirements are extremely competitive as some of the UCs rank high nationally and internationally. Heavy emphasis on research at most UCs. Offers Bachelors degrees up through PhD programs and some certification and credentialing programs. Popular UCs: UCLA, UCSD, UCR, UCSB, CAL

Out-of-State: Publically funded, but California students pay a higher rate of “out-of-state” tuition. May have different eligibility requirements to apply than UC or Cal States. Admission requirements are sometimes lower for out-of-state students than in-state. There are regional scholarships that might help reduce out-of-state tuition when applying to schools within the western United States. Popular out-of-state schools: University of Oregon ☺ , UNLV, ASU, Boise St. University, Colorado State University, etc.

Vocational/Trade Schools: private schools where you’d go to train in a specific field and receive certification or degree. Can be expensive, but many take financial aid. Examples: Culinary schools, Art schools, Technical Schools, etc.

Community College: Open to anyone who wants to learn something new after (or even during) high school. Usually inexpensive. You can take classes or programs to become qualified for new careers. High school students go and re-take classes they failed at their high school or take ones their school doesn't offer. You can earn an Associate's Degreewhich is a two-year degree but is not what qualifies in common language as a “College degree”. You can go to a community college for two years and then transfer to a four-year college to complete your degree. Majority of community colleges do not have housing.
