Mission

The Maize and Blue Cupboard is a grocery store at the University of Michigan that supplies free food and supplies to students, faculty, and staff to address food insecurity on campus. They are expanding their services into a hub of resources including assistance applying for SNAP benefits and learning healthy recipes. To increase their impact, they need a way to communicate their content and services to those who would benefit on campus.

What should the app do?

5 of 8

    • Were given a foundation of research that provided the scope of the project
    • Development was initially started in AppGyver, moved to React Native for cross-platform compatibility
    • Sketching, creating wireframes, and designing in Figma

Our Approach

Challenges

    • Developing in React Native is a trade-off: it ensures that the app is available to everyone regardless of OS, but has a steep learning curve

    • The client’s needs are ever-evolving

Accessibility

    • Designs will be audited for accessibility throughout the process
      • Color contrat analyzer
      • Axe Accessibility Validator
      • WAVE Accessibility Validator
    • Other considerations
      • Ability to choose language
