MATE / UNOLS Marine Technical Internship Program

15 Internships throughout the year

Program Overview:

  • Started 1999 with NSF grant & partnership with UNOLS. 346 total interns placed
  • Program Mission:
    • Provide opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds to receive education and training by marine technical professionals;
    • Improve marine technical education and prepare the future ocean workforce; and
    • Help meet demand for multi-skilled marine technicians.
  • Hosts have direct involvement in training the next generation and recruit from the program
  • Interns develop professionally and find rewarding work in the marine technical field.
  • Supply many techs to the fleet annually.

Program Goal: Provide ship-based, 6-10 day exploratory experiences for undergraduates from diverse backgrounds aboard NSF-funded research vessels.
