Other Resources

Other organizations in Utah have shared resources in Canvas Commons that you may find useful in your classroom.

BYU Commons Admin has partnered with UEN to make their online course content available for a blended learning. Classroom teachers may use the materials with students who are enrolled in their school (both face to face and distance learners). This is copyrighted material.

Other school districts and teachers in Utah have freely shared their work and you may read their descriptions, previews and their copyright or creative commons licensing to determine if it is a resource you would like to use.

Additional tutorials on Commons can be found on Instructure’s own help page.

Alternate Method of Grabbing Items in Canvas

As of 8/19/2020 Canvas is experiencing a glitch with Commons Favorites--it may resolve itself quickly, but just in case, here is an alternative method to grabbing single items from a Canvas course

Find a course in Commons that has content you would like to include in your live course. Click the blue Import/Download button and save it on your computer.

23 of 29

Go to your “live” course. Choose the Settings menu and select Import Course Content

24 of 29

From the dropdown menu, select Canvas course Export Package

25 of 29

Browse your computer to where you saved the downloaded course from Commons (likely the Downloads location on your computer). It will end with imscc

CRITICAL: YOU MUST CLICK THE RADIO BUTTON FOR SELECT SPECIFIC CONTENT

If you don’t choose select content, it will upload everything from the whole course.

26 of 29

Canvas will begin to import the course and then will wait for you to select which specific items you want. You must tell it which items by clicking the button.

27 of 29

Click the Arrow NEXT to the box to show the drop down of all the items in a category.

28 of 29

When you see the item you WANT to add to your “live” class, check the box. You MAY check more than one box if you want more than one item.

When you are done checking boxes, click the SELECT CONTENT button

NOTE: For Quizzes, you might also need to grab the “files” category in case there are images embedded.

29 of 29

To see the items you just imported, click the category (assignments, discussions, pages, etc…) in your “live” course and you will see them there.
