Kilian was Head of the Amazon Certified Refurbished Program and New Key Account Manager for the largest electronics retailers at Amazon Germany.
Kilian studied Communication and Business Administration in Hamburg, Shanghai & London. He is originally from Hamburg and has lived and worked in Munich for several years.
Peter was a consultant at McKinsey for several years, where he advised major marketplaces and e-commerce companies in Europe.��Peter studied business administration in Vienna, Hong Kong, Shanghai & San Francisco. He comes from upper Austria and has lived in Vienna for almost ten years.
Jürgen was technical director and founder of several international start-ups in Vienna and Berlin.��Jürgen studied software engineering at the TU Vienna. He originally comes from lower Austria and has lived in Berlin in the meantime.

OUR FOUNDING HISTORY
Peter Windischhofer, one of our three founders, had a negative experience buying a smartphone on a classified ad platform. His device no longer worked and he wanted to buy an ecologically sound smartphone - but he didn't want to spend a fortune. He decided to buy a used iPhone, but it broke down after a few weeks. Without any guarantee or warranty, he was left with no product and lost money.
Looking for a better option, Peter recalled refurbished products he had come across while studying in the USA. After researching the area, it was clear that these products must be part of our future, representing the best alternative to our current 'throwaway' society.
The idea for refurbed was born: a platform for completely renewed and high quality products with uniform, high standards of quality, price, safety and guarantee. A platform that allows consumers to buy sustainable devices easily, cheaply and without risk.
Together with Jürgen Riedl and Kilian Kaminski, Peter Windischhofer founded refurbed in Vienna in 2017.

How are refurbed™ products completely renewed?
Typically, our products are exhibits or they come from large companies (such as telecommunications companies) that exchange their company mobile phones or laptops.
Where do refurbed™ products come from?
Why do dealers across Europe sell on refurbed?
Every refurbed™ product is completely renewed in up to 40 steps and tested by specialists. Among other elements; the battery, camera, particular parts such as the home button and even individual pixels on the screen are checked and replaced if necessary.
Finally, the software is updated and quality assurance takes place to ensure that every refurbed™ device functions as new.
Refurbed is a marketplace. We do not renew equipment ourselves, but act as an intermediary between dealers and customers. Our main task is to strictly control quality and price and to provide professional support to our customers, before and after their purchase. Meanwhile, the range on our marketplace includes over 8,000 electronic products such as mobile phones, laptops, tablets and audio, and from other categories such as smartwatches, desktops, gaming consoles or printers/scanners.

How exactly does the tree planting work?
We plant a tree for every product a customer buys. Along with our partners "Reforest Nation" and "Eden Reforestation Projects", we plant native trees in Ireland, Haiti, Madagascar, Nepal, Indonesia, Kenya and Mozambique. Customers can choose where they want�their trees to grow. Together, we are supporting the reforestation of declining forests worldwide.
PARTNERSHIP WITH REFOREST NATION
In March 2022, refurbed announced a tree planting partnership with Irish tree planting organisation, Reforest Nation.
Refurbed.ie customers now have the opportunity to choose to have their tree specifically be a native tree planted in Ireland.
The purpose of this partnership is to help regreen Ireland. Once the most densely forested country in Europe, today only 2% of Irish land is covered by native forestry. With the help of Reforest Nation, refurbed aims to dramatically increase the native forest cover in Ireland.
As picked up by The Irish Times, this initiative is a key pillar for refurbed in creating a true Irish circular economy.
In just over 1 year, Irish customers have already planted 30,000 trees with refurbed, and this is only the beginning, with more and more trees being planted on behalf of Irish customers each day.
Furthermore, since the announcement of this partnership, Irish customers have shown their support with the vast majority of refurbed.ie’s customers choosing to plant locally and help regreen their country.

What are refurbed™ devices?
Refurbed™ products are completely renewed (previously used) products of the highest quality.
Unlike used equipment, refurbed™ products are visually and functionally identical to new equipment, as they are professionally renewed and checked by experts.
We do offer 3 'grades' of products, which are 'Like New', 'Very Good' and 'Good'. While all products function like new, these grades relate to visual appearance. This gives customers the option to choose from price-ranges and visuals that suit their needs.
