IMPACT

6 of 22

Social Impact Measurement is an evolving and constant practice used by mission-driven organizations to understand how much social change occurred and can be attributed to the organization's activities or projects.

Impact Measurement does not only include the recollection of impact data but also the analysis of this data to identify our level of contribution to the visible change.

BEING SDG ALIGNED TO IMPACT THE WORLD

Since 2015 AIESEC has driven efforts to seek alignment with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. These goals have a crucial connection with our vision, since they were created to achieve peace and a sustainable future for all. We realizes that by developing leaders that are eager to contribute to the SDGs, we will getting closer to achieve peace and fulfillment of humankind's potential.

GV IMPACT & LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Global

Volunteer

Academy

When a young person engages with AIESEC through a GV experience, they are able to actively participate on a social project that contributes to an SDG target.

Being able to focus and understand their social impact gives them a more grounded understanding of the skills they have developed.

So, once they finish their experiences and go out to the world as young leaders, they can keep taking actions for the SDGs contributing to achieve peace and fulfillment of humankind's potential.

WHY IS IMPACT MEASUREMENT

RELEVANT FOR GV?

Evolve our programs: through analysis of impact results, we can identify the points of improvements of GV, allowing us to create frameworks to innovate the program.

Increase accountability to stakeholders: collecting evidence of our impact helps us do good account management and prove that the projects we run are worth the investment.

Increase attraction: by having tangible impact data available we can enhance the value of our GV projects making them more attractive to a youth sector interested on making social impact, as well as providing better journeys that turn into more promoters of the exchange.

And that is why when we talk about the future of Global Volunteer, SDG alignment and impact measurement, we talk about Global Projects.

What are

Global Projects?

We had a problem. The lack of universal alignment of all GV projects to the SDGs. To solve that issue we created the Global Projects, a group of 16 Global Volunteer Projects designed with D4I framework ensuring their contribution to the SDGs. They are accessible, easy to implement and respond to our customers’ demands.

GLOBAL PROJECTS ARE THE ANSWER!

They are impact-driven social projects specially designed to contribute to an SDG target, allowing us to measure the project outcomes.

They include all resources related to the delivery of the project such the content that the volunteer needs to deliver and how to measure and report the project impact.

They are fully customisable, to adapt them to your country reality and to needs of the community or beneficiaries you're targeting.

They allow us to improve our selling and partnership strategy, since we have now the ability to make social projects proposals with an universal language such as the SDGs.

HOW DO WE MEASURE THE GLOBAL PROJECTS’ IMPACT?

Each Global Project has a set of outcomes and outputs based on the AIESEC Youth Indicators.

EXAMPLE [ GLOBAL PROJECT 4.7]

OUTCOME: Increase the number of young people aware of the SDGs, local and global issues.

OUTPUTS:

# of youth educated on Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship

# of trainings on Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship

COLLECT

EPs will assess the beneficiaries with questionnaires about the project topics. This questionnaires had multiple options questions and self-awareness test.

ANALYSE

EPs will check the questionnaires’ results to identify how many people answer correctly, validating their knowledge and awareness about the topic.

REPORT

Finally, EPs will report the data to AIESEC, being able to create an impact report from the project.

We got to know if, at the end of the project, the beneficiaries (children and youth) participating on the project manage to become more aware about the SDGs, local and global issues.

The are many strategies that we can use to find out if our project achieved the outcome, here is what we did last peak:

EXAMPLE: based on the IMPACT REPORT from last semesters pilots.

Community leader testimony: [the project] contributed a lot for children to develop recreational, dynamic and integration skills, since boys and girls look for this dynamic with volunteers and knowledge of their culture. [...] Enough was achieved regarding education, children's behavior.

CONCLUSIONS & MOVING FORWARD

Allocate resources to implement Global Projects will lead to an overall improvement on the AIESEC experiences you deliver. Seek information and plan how to make this happen for your entity.

Impact measurement is an useful tool to increase the credibility of our project, be able to boost our partnership capacity and deliver better experiences

If your GV is not SDG aligned then it is not an AIESEC program, SDG Alignment is a process that involve the implementation of Global Projects and impact measurement tools to be accountable of our impact.
