GOAL 4: Census Records

“Intro video” - Watch the entire video and pause and comment as needed.

Choice A:

“FS: English Census”

In Census Forms and Headings open the 1841 and 1851 Headings PDF and briefly review the heading info.
Forms for various census years can be downloaded in this section.
In “How the Censuses Were Taken” explain the rules for who were counted and who were not.
In the 1841 section click on the image to display it, and discuss it briefly. Mention that the bullet list items are also included in the Census Forms and Headings documents above.
In The 1939 Register summarize the three paragraphs to describe the characteristics and value of the register.

“FS: England and Wales Census Records …”

Scroll down to page 3, Using the Census. Briefly review the bullet items for practical tips on using census records in England and Wales.
In Search Techniques, review all or some of the list items for tips on successful census searches.

“WDY: How to search the UK census by address”

Scroll down to Search the UK Census by Address on Findmypast.
Review the content in the section, including how to find the Address Search on Findmypast, the fields to use, and that the 1921 Census is available only on Findmypast.

Choice B:

“AAC: Researching Census Records”

Watch the entire video, commenting as needed. This video has extensive examples of census records and how they can be examined for research clues.

“The Census”

Explain that this is a case study in searching census records for Martha Chambers, from the 1901 census back to the 1861 census. You can briefly scroll through the article and recommend it for further study later on.

“AAC - Researching Electoral Registers”

Watch the entire video, commenting as needed.

Choice C:

“FMP - 10 Tips for Searching …?”

Scroll down to the numbered list and briefly review each of the tips for searching the 1939 Register.
