Summary Information - Weapons

  • In the 2022-2023 school year, mace, knives, and BB guns, were confiscated from students.
  • They were identified largely by other students reporting the weapon when they saw it.

District-Wide Climate Survey

As a result of the feedback we received from the Spring District-wide Survey of students, families, and staff, investments were made to:

  1. Contract with a company to provide additional safety support to secondary schools during afternoon dismissal.
  2. Investments in safety equipment for secondary buildings.
  3. Investments in exterior door alarms

$183,644- For upgraded servers for security cameras district-wide, exterior door alarms on secondary school doors, and additional cameras for elementary school buildings .

Lansdowne Police Department School Resource Officer

Additional Background

  1. November 2022 - The Borough of Lansdowne elected officials reached out to the district to collaborate on a plan to ensure the safety of Penn Wood High School students and the community. (Lansdowne Borough Letter to the WPSD Board and Superintendent)

  • The officer will be armed and assigned to Penn Wood High School, Green Ave campus to support the school by being an additional presence in the school to deter and respond to student altercations.
