Apps for Art

If you or other teachers in your building are blessed with ipads, these are some fantastic art apps. If you only have access to one ipad, you can hook your projector to an apple tv and display the single ipad to the screen so all the kids can take turns. You can also ask other teachers or librarians to share their ipads or tablets for certain lessons.

You can buy a new Apple TV for around $120 on Amazon.

Or get one used from McKays or Facebook marketplace for much less..

Programs to Support Art Instruction

Google Workspace Programs:

All students have access to these programs that can serve as a platform for assignments and projects.

Students can use Google Slides to post images for their portfolios, create artwork with shapes and graphics, and you could even use hyperdocs (Embedded Links) to get information to students quickly and easily.

Share almost anything with students and parents by creating a Google Site. You can use it as a vessel for students to access online materials and activities and suggest at-home activities that families can access as well.Click the icon to learn more about setting up a google site.

Google Drawings lets students create designs using shapes and images and then allows them to easily save them in their Google Drive to use in other programs.

Jamboard acts like a digital whiteboard but with SO many more possibilities…Click the icon for information and templates for Jamboard.

Kami’s Drawing and annotation tools (videos, voice comments, etc) Make it perfect for artwork. Kami’s library has templates for many activities, or you can upload your own.

Though Canva is not google, it is AMAZING!!! It has templates for any and everything that you can imagine. It is very user-friendly and can be used with Google Classroom to create assignments.

More Programs

Classflow:

Classflow is a free site that allows you to send questions to a student’s screen. Then, students can respond and send their answers back to you so that everyone can see. There are multiple question types, but the “creative” poll allows students to free write or draw. For littles, they can use their fingers on the screens of the chromebooks. Students simply put in the class code to join the session. The “Instant whiteboard” is the easiest and fastest tool, but you can get fancier by building out full lessons (which act like almost like pear deck).

Here is an entire Presentation on Classflow.

Sharing Student Work

  • Google Sites: While students CAN create a Google Site for their portfolios, they cannot make those sites public and viewable to everyone online. BUT…You can make a Google Site to share with parents.
  • Google Slides: If students create a Slides presentation with their portfolio of work, you can then use the Share Link and create a QR code to send home. Or, you could insert each Slides presentation into your own Google Site and share the entire site. It would be like a virtual art museum for your school.
  • Artsonia allows for art sharing as well. It requires a few more steps, but it can be well worth it. Parents can purchase items made from the kids’ artwork with 20% of the profits going back to the school.
  • Youtube: If students create videos, share them on Your youtube Channel. Just be mindful of parent permissions in regards to student images being used online (form at the beginning of the year that dictates yearbook and website) and make sure no personal information other than a first name is mentioned.
  • Instagram: Using Instagram to display students’ work is great! Again, just be careful of student information. No last names or identifying information.
  • Facebook: Same thing…be mindful of student image permissions and last names.
