Dual Enrollment

  • Dual enrollment is a program that allows high school students to take college courses and earn college credit while still in high school.
  • To offer dual enrollment classes on our campuses, LCPS partners with the Chabot College and the Peralta Community Colleges
  • Some of the goals of the dual Dual enrollment programs are to:
    • Make sure students have the opportunity to challenge themselves academically in high school
    • Provide students with exposure to academic subjects and career fields that aren't covered in our high school's curriculum
    • Help students earn transferable credits that will make their path through college easier and less expensive
    • Build student familiarity and confidence with college-level coursework
  • Each dual enrollment class typically provides 3 units of college credit
  • Dual Enrollment classes at LCPS in Fall 2024:
    • Lighthouse: Intro to Engineering, Public Speaking, and The College Experience
    • Lodestar: Intro to Psychology and World Mythology

OneGoal Partnership

OneGoal is a national organization designed to transform postsecondary advising and support.

We partner with OneGoal around curriculum, professional development, and program strategy in our college/career access program.

All 11th grade students take a One Goal class taught by our College and Career Advisors in spring of 11th grade and fall of 12th grade.

All LCPS alumni have the opportunity to receive support from a OneGoal coach during their first year after graduation

DCAC Partnership

  • Destination College Advising Corps (DCAC) is part of the National Student Advising Corps and based out of the Center for Educational Partnerships at UC Berkeley
  • DCAC helps increase college access for low-income, first-generation and underrepresented high school students by placing highly-trained, recent college graduates in schools as full-time College Adviser Fellows.
  • LCPS has partnered with DCAC for almost a decade to place DCAC Advisor Fellows at our high schools and support college access through:

*Lessons in crew (advisory) *Workshops for students and families

* 1-1 advising * Connections to extracurricular programs

College Access

Our team strives to promote the value of college while also providing information about viable alternatives such as career training programs.

One of the primary ways we promote college/career access for all students is through College and Career Seminar, a required class for all 11th and 12th grade students taught by our advisors with Curriculum from One Goal. Topics covered in the seminar class include:

    • Connecting interests, strengths, and goals to post-secondary plans
    • Developing a personalized list of post-secondary options
    • Writing high-quality personal statements and application essays
    • Completing post-secondary applications
    • Applying for financial aid, scholarships, and loans (if necessary)
    • Selecting, enrolling and matriculating to college or a career-training program

We also coordinate workshops for families and at least one college visit per year for all LCPS students in grades 9-12

Post-Secondary Outcomes

In 2024, more than 80% of students at LCPS competed A-G requirements and were accepted to 4-year colleges

Approximately 40% of these students matriculated to 4-year colleges (mostly colleges in the CSU and UC systems)

Another 40% enrolled in the California Community College system

The remaining 20% of students opted for career training, entry-level jobs, or the military

Career Technical Education (CTE) Pathways

CTE is a program of study that involves a multiyear sequence of courses integrating core academic knowledge with technical and occupational knowledge to provide students with a pathway to postsecondary education and careers. This framework is also called Linked Learning.

CTE is one of the strategies we use to help ensure that students are prepared for college and career opportunities.

Our CTE programs are mostly grant funded. These grants include:

  • Measure N/H (OUSD) - approx. $450K per year
  • CTEIG (California Dept of Education) - approx. $75K per year

Currently, there is a CTE Media Arts Pathway at Lodestar and CTE Design Pathway at Lighthouse. LCPS was also recently awarded a Golden State Pathways grant from the CDE to pilot a new Health Pathway.

Work-based Learning Initiatives

  • Another goal of our team is to provide structured opportunities for all LCPS students to develop awareness of various industries/occupations, explore career options, and participate in hands-on, career-focused learning. This happens through lessons in crew, career fairs, job shadows, internships, and mock interviews.

  • We also help students find employment, secure work permits, and balance the responsibilities of commitments at work and school

  • In 2024-25 we are partnering with the Alameda County Office of Education to implement the Green Careers Guidance Initiative and promote pathways to careers in the skilled trades, especially those that benefit sustainability efforts (example: solar panel installers)
