Meet and Greet
Our school offers a Saturday ELL Academy for students beginning in January!
Dear Families,
Welcome to the 2022-2023 Academic School Year here at IS 201. This year your child will be receiving
support in order improve their understanding and use of the English Language.
We look forward to cooperating with you throughout the school year as we know how parent-teacher
communications has a direct positive impact on a child’s academic outcome.
For this reason please feel free to contact us at 718-833-9363
Or via email at
Each Spring your child is given the NYSESLAT Exam
New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test
This test is designed to annually assess the English language proficiency of all
English Language Learners (ELLs) / Multilingual Learners (MLLs)
enrolled in Grades K–12. The NYSESLAT is one component of
the State’s compliance with federal laws that mandate annually assessing and monitoring
the English Language proficiency progress of all ELLs.
Your child has scored on one of the following levels. You were informed of this score in the
letter of continuing entitlement you received.
These are:
EN- Entering (Beginner)
EM-Emerging (Low Intermediate)
TR- Transitioning ( Intermediate)
EX- Expanding (Advanced)
In order for your child to TEST OUT and NOT receive ELL support they
must achieve a CM- Commanding score on the NYSESLAT.
They will take this test in the Spring of this school year. A letter informing you of their level
will be provided to you in September of the following academic year.
When they receive a commanding score they are considered to be a Former ELL (FELL)
They will still be entitled to support on assessments for the next two school years.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact:
