Evaluate teacher educators’ perceived confidence and competence to provide gender transformative education;
Measure the extent to which teacher educators apply GRP in their teaching particularly in areas of STEM subjects and CSE;
Assess to what extent there have been positive changes in gender-related knowledge, behaviour and attitudes among teacher educators and their student teachers, that may be associated with the GRP implementation; and

Introduction

There are a total of 9 tools.
6 of the tools will be used to gather information from the teacher educators themselves or be focused on them.
The other 3 of the tools will be used to gather information from other key stakeholders for this period. Namely:

The student teachers
The Heads of participating TEIs

Most of the data will be collected remotely (using online forms).
There will be a field monitoring visit towards the end of the Field-testing period.

Tools 2 – 5 are to be completed by the Teacher Educators themselves

Tool 2 As we will ask Teacher Educators to complete a needs assessment prior to the preparation training, we will have only a post implementation survey carried out online, prior to the final reflection circle – rather than additional pre-survey

During the implementation period – as a minimum - we will expect teacher educators to teach as a minimum, content from 5 of the GRP Sessions.

Tool 3: will be completed following the teaching of the 5 compulsory sessions from the GRP manual and PowerPoints. So the first tool will be completed after teaching the 4 activities contained in: What is gender – by the end of 4^th week of September, Why is gender important – 1^st week Oct (2 Activities), Reflection Circles 2 Week October… It will therefore be completed 5 times over the implementation period

Tools 4, and 5 focus on mainstreaming GRP in STEM and CSE lessons. Tool 4 is a quantitative tool, Focused on the extent to which Teacher Educators are able to mainstream GRP into their CSE lessons Tool 5: Focuses on the planning of 3 lessons in which GRP is mainstreamed

Monitor Tools

Tool 6: The first reflection circle will focus on the teaching of GRP content, the second will focus on the mainstreaming of GRP into STEM / CSE lessons, with the final reflection circle taking place after the monitoring visit and reflecting on the field testing as a whole.
Tools 7, 8 and 9 will be used during the monitoring visits, and include a lesson observation with the participating Teacher Educators, Focus Group Discussion (FGDs) with student teachers (by male and female) and a Key Informant Interview (KII) with the Head of the TEI. Signed consent forms will be required for FGDs and KIIs.

During the field-testing, a minimum of 3 reflection circles will be held, in 2 groups, largely split by those focused on STEM subjects and those teaching CSE. Whilst the teacher educators will not be asked to complete a tool after those reflection circles, the Monitors will be asked to do this, using tool number 6.

The first reflection circle will focus on the teaching of GRP content, and hence will take place after the foundational sessions and reflection circle sessions have been taught to student teachers, the second will focus on the mainstreaming of GRP into STEM / CSE lessons, with the final reflection circle taking place after the monitoring visit, and reflecting on the field testing as a whole.

Tools 7,8 and 9 will be used during the monitoring visits, and include a lesson observation with the participating Teacher Educators, FGDs with student teachers (by male and female) and a Key Informant interview with the Head of the TEI.

The lesson observed will be the final one of the 3 GRP lesson plan tools the teacher educator prepares. It should be a new lesson, but the plan prepared and submitted in advance. The Focus group discussions will likely be by Male/female – although should we find that student teachers self-declare as Non-binary gender in the student pre-survey, we will also consider also a mixed gender group, if there are sufficient students. For the Hea of the TEI, there will be a key-informant interview. This will not require any special knowledge of preparation, but it is just to find out if any issues arose during the field-testing, any feedback you may have received or heard from student teachers or teacher educators and to seek your feedback on the process, as a key stakeholder needed for the success of the field-testing as well as any future roll out on the GRP.

Signed consent forms will be required from all student teachers taking part in the Focused group discussions, as well as from the Heads of TEIs. These will be sent electronically in advance of the monitoring visit, so student teachers can decide if they want to participate, however the physical forms will be brought by the monitors and the consent forms of the Head of the TEI and the student teachers should be signed in the presence of the monitor.
