Production and Presentation of Artworks

To receive very high marks for the refinement of your final artwork, you need to…

1. reflect and evaluate your exploratory artworks, with the consideration of your critique feedback.
2. progressively document, reflect and evaluate your progress in refining your final artwork in your Visual Arts journal.

You may want to take new reference photos for your subject matter refinement.

Resolve:

Explain how you will use your materials, techniques and aesthetic qualities to communicate your concept/s

Start sketching ideas for composition and presentations.

They don’t have to be pretty. Enough to help you get an idea of how you might move forward.

Present :

Take a look at your sketches so far. Outline your best ideas- this will shift and change over the next few weeks. Discus scale and format. Discus concerns, and possible issues you may come up with. Labelling your series as a Diptych or triptych will ensure your work will be considered one artwork not 2/3 separate pieces. What issues may arise??

Preparing:

Make a list of materials you will need. Do we have them at school? Do I need to order anything for your project? Are there items you need to search for in op shops or at home?

Look at the final half of your workplan. Start planning out your process and filling it in.

Will you make both artworks at the same time or will you prefer to do one at a time? Do you need to take reference photos? Do you need to prepare surfaces to paint on?

Presentation

Presentation of the artworks should be carefully considered. Drawings, sketches or renders of their presentation in a space should form part of the evaluation document. Photographs of the work presented in a neutral space, similar to an exhibition presentation, is highly recommended. Framing is not necessary, unless otherwise defined for a specific aesthetic or conceptual reason. Avoid using cheap framing alternatives that may diminish the overall quality of the work and distract rather than increase the overall appearance of the artwork. The nature of the art form the student is working in, the scale of the artworks and the complexity of the work undertaken during Unit 4 will influence the presentation of two artworks.
