Salwa

  • Salwa is a teacher and a mother of 3 kids. Quarantine life has been “boring” and “difficult” for her. With COVID-19, her kids are now at home and she’s no longer teaching.

KEEP KIDS ENTERTAINED

EXPRESS IDENTITY

BE PART OF COMMUNITY

With 3 kids at home, she wants to engage her kids in creative projects and activities

As she’s no longer teaching, Salwa is looking for new ways to keep busy while pursuing creative pursuits

There is a larger loss of community - her community as a teacher, family visits, etc.

NEED ACCURATE INFO

MENTAL SUPPORT

With so much fake news about COVID

DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS

MEETING USER NEEDS

Book reading club (app)

Teachers can have a community-based reading resources (like Goodread)

Mental health support (text)

Given the turbulence of current times, we considered creating a mental health text-based support

Delivery box

With resources for kids and Salwa to address the different needs

Storytelling tool

Get local artists to create a resource for kids, and teachers can participate

Online education tool

Teachers can teach online through a platform (does not exist).

COVID-info app

Given uncertainty about COVID, we considered creating a resource/platform for information

Cialdini’s Design Principles

Mot’a’s success is partially ensured by an adherence to influence frameworks such as reciprocity, social proof and scarcity.

Reciprocity

Pay it forward

Families receiving boxes for free will be moved, in turn, to help us by recommending others in need of a box, sending in their story book contributions, sharing their relevant activities with the online community, etc.

Social Proof

Share giving online

This is something we would encourage in the hope that friends of donors will be moved to do the same.

Kids of potential donors who see their friends receiving boxes will want their own

Scarcity

Luxury via personalisation

Mot’a allows people to experience the excitement that comes with receiving products curated specifically for them. This is true for both the donors and receivers in a time when these kinds of purchases aren’t as common.
