National Audubon Day is April 26th.
For this week’s Maker Monday project we will focus on Ms. Bloom’s least favorite topic: birds!
Before we start… let’s talk about the Engineering Design Process.
(For the 20th time.😬)
Here’s another way to look at the process.
Some people show the Engineering Design Process using this graphic. I am showing this again because it is really important!!!
Whether you know it, or not, you’ll actually follow this process while making your Maker Monday #6 project!
I know I have said this every time we do a Maker Monday project but that is because it is true!!!!
STEP #1: Identify the Problem
For this project, you must make a bird out of a paper bag.
STEP #2: Explore and do research

STEP #3: DESIGN
STEP #3: DESIGN + CREATE
Now it’s YOUR TURN to create a bird out of a paper bag (any size). You can use a few other materials if you really want to, but most of the bird must be made out of a paper bag! Get permission to use the materials from an adult.
STEP #3: DESIGN
Remember… don’t just start building…
… check around the house.
See what’s around and start thinking of ideas…
STEP #4: CREATE
Thinking about using cardboard?
Check out these awesome ideas for how to attach pieces of cardboard together!
Cardboard Connections
You can use cardboard, but remember, the bird MUST be made out of a paper bag!
Paper Techniques
You can use other paper, but remember, the bird MUST be made out of a paper bag!
STEP #4: CREATE
STEP #5: TRY IT OUT (TEST)
STEP #6: MAKE IT BETTER (IMPROVE)
Like I’ve said before… you will do these over and over in little steps. Ms. Bloom did this a lot when she was working on this project. She asked herself: What material would be best to use? How can I attach it? She kept looking at pictures of the object she was trying to build.
