Foreword

It has been a true pleasure for all of us in the DUP to serve as your representatives in the assembly and in parliament, and we know that we can continue to serve as a non-sectarian Unionist party to bring Ulster together and forward. We look forward to another term of service and hope that we can do our part in keeping Northern Ireland the special place it is.-Angela_MerkeI and Cenarchros

Exiting the European Union

One of the key issues facing the entire United Kingdom is the issue of ‘Brexit’. Northern Ireland voted in favour of leaving the European Union, and thus the DUP is committed to carrying out the people’s will and ensuring that Ulster gets the best deal possible out of Brexit.

  • The DUP recognizes the fact that Northern Ireland voted to remain in the Single Market, and will explore all possible solutions to ensure that Northern Ireland benefits from Brexit.

  • Recognizing the ties between Northern Ireland and the South, The DUP will negotiate to ensure a frictionless border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, as we know a hard border is in no one's best interest.
  • The DUP will work with the government to ensure a smooth transition.

  • The DUP will fight to protect the Common Travel Area between Ulster and the Republic of Ireland.

  • The DUP will negotiate with the Labservative Government to ensure the replacement of subsidies currently provided by the European Union.

Identity and Devolution

Northern Ireland is blessed with a unique and special identity as a part of the United Kingdom. The DUP recognizes this and seeks to protect the identities of all communities in Northern Ireland as all of them are vital to the special land that is Ulster.

  • The DUP will oppose any legislation which seeks to attack or belittle the identity of any community in Northern Ireland. We will seek to protect Minority languages such as Ulster Scots and Gaelic.
  • The DUP will help to establish centenary celebrations, projects and public art to commemorate a century of Northern Ireland being the unique land that it is.
  • The DUP will fight for the right of assembly for all groups in Northern Ireland, on dates such as the 12th of July, and St. Patrick’s Day.
  • The DUP will lobby for the recognition of and equal status of Ulster Scots in Northern Ireland, as well as fighting for the protection of our Ulster Scots heritage and culture.
  • The DUP will oppose any further unneeded and unwanted transfer of powers to Northern Ireland.
  • The DUP will oppose any border poll in Northern Ireland - there is no need or want for a border poll, and the DUP is a staunch protector of the Union and its benefits for the people of Ulster

The Environment

Northern Ireland was blessed by God above with its beautiful rolling hills and mountains. The DUP will fight to protect this beautiful and special land and combat the threat of global warming by working with all those willing to keep our province clean.

  • The DUP will work towards the establishment of a Greenways Network across Northern Ireland that provides traffic free spaces for cyclists and pedestrians for both leisure and commuting.
  • The DUP is of the belief that the Assembly absolutely must do more to achieve the woodland creation goal. We will seek to fight for legislation to help achieve this target if elected.
  • The DUP will seek to curtail the destructive process of littering and seek to pass legislation that will keep our streets clean.
  • The DUP wants to further showcase the beauty of Northern Ireland to the world, and will lobby for the establishment of a national park to bring in tourism as well as protect the environment.

Education and Health

A strong education is essential to success in life and the DUP will seek to ensure that our young people get the best education that will prepare them for life

  • The DUP will continue to support cross community education.
  • The DUP will support greater autonomy for schools, and encourage schools to take control of their own budgets and resources, to ensure that the specific needs of each school are met and all of our students get the support they need
  • The DUP will work cross-party in establishing more digital literacy skills within the education system of Northern Ireland. We will also look to establish a E-gaming commission to promote this amongst our young people.
  • The DUP will support proposals on the issue of cross-border health services cooperation. Whilst the DUP will always support the continuation of our United Kingdom, it is important that those in border communities receive the best possible healthcare and emergency services available, and if those are located in the Republic we would want them to get the best care available.
  • The DUP will always oppose moves to privatize health care or to cut health care spending without any compassionate plan to replace the funding,
