Group Novel Discussion Day One
Round 1: 10 minutes
Discuss any questions or points of confusion you had with your text.
Discuss your opinions about the text. What are you liking? What are you not liking?
Please write down group thoughts on an individual piece of paper after your discussion.
Round 2: 10 minutes
What connections can you draw between your book and other stories that we have read this year? Consider: thematic elements, characters, tropes, plot details, MOWAAW, etc.
Please write down your thoughts after your discussion.
Round 3: 5-10 minutes
As individuals, write several analysis questions that would create a good discussion for your book. You might ask about character motivation, significance of a scene or plot detail, stylistic techniques, symbolism, setting, narrative voice, thematic importance, social commentary, etc.
Example: What is the importance of Catherine requesting a whip from her father?
Round 4: 15 minutes
Sustain an analytical discussion/debate using your individual analytical discussion topics as fuel.

Round 5: 10 minutes/10 minutes
As an individual, please write down 2-3 open ended essay style questions that you think would be a good match for your book.
Share and discuss as a group.
Round 6: 15 minutes
Imagine that you are producing a film version of your novel. As a group, discuss what actors you would have playing the roles of the characters in your book and what other vision you have for your movie version. (Film style, music, etc.)
Write down your cast and other details either as a group or as an individual (if you can’t compromise) after your discussion.
