Wednesday - Number formation workbook, matariki star matching game as a group

Thursday - Half of activity

Friday - Cut and paste activity to show understanding of concept - to be completed with assistance where required

Wednesday - Cut and paste activity to show understanding of concept

Thursday -Discuss the different ways to write ½ and ¼ and explore the meanings of reasons for each with whiteboards on mat. Worksheet activity on different ways to write fractions (words, numbers and ¼)

Friday - Discuss relationship between doubles and halves and how this helps our understanding of each. Extension worksheet of half and quarter to be completed in pairs.

Monday - Whole class lesson. Students to explore concept of what half is mathematically. Students to explore powerpoint on halves and quarters then discuss as whole class making half and quarter of teachers collections of objects. Stress phrase “2 of 4 EQUAL groups” as weeks focus.

Week 8

Circles

Wednesday - Count the feet in the group, the knees, eyes, elbows, ears and hands. Is this easier when skip counting. Aim for students to feel confident skip counting to 10 by themselves.

Friday - Skip counting dinosaur or animal dot-to-dots. Use counters or teddy bears to help with the skip counting where needed. Look specifically for pattern of ones column to help with completion of activity with assistance.

Triangles and Squares

Wednesday - order and count the wheels on bike activity, and the butterfly wings activity, counting in 2’s as a group (triangles with one set and squares with the other set). Swap sets and try again.

Friday - Dinosaur or animal dot-to-dots to be completed independently. Students to make their own dot-to-dot for a friend as an extension.

Monday - Whole class lesson. Skip counting - what is this and how does it help us? Counting our matariki stars. Lets count the feet, eyes, hands, socks, ears, knees and elbows in our class. Is there a pattern we can see? How does skip counting look on our big 100’s board? Can we skip count with a skipping rope??

Week 9

Monday - PRODUCTION WEEK - revision of fraction and skip counting activities. These activities will have been collected in group activity boxes and students will have choice to participate in any activity from their groups box either individually, in pairs, or as a whole group.

Students will share and complete the dot-to-dots they made the previous week, either photocopied or laminated by classroom teacher for multiple uses/attempts.

Discuss what made some easier and some harder. ALL students to make another dot-to-dot either counting by 1’s, 2’s or 5’s depending on group and individual understanding of topic.

Wednesday - students to order a range of number lines and count them forward and backwards out loud once completing each one as a group

Friday - skip counting by jumping along footprint with feet together drawn in chalk by students on concrete outside calssroom

Triangles and Squares

Wednesday - skip counting with skipping ropes and drawing footprints to jump along and skip count.

Friday - students to revisit ‘last card’ game with deck of cards

Monday - Whole class lesson. Students to revisit terms learning. Discuss favourite activity/game from the term and revisit as a class. Students to complete worksheet on dice groupings to 10.

Wednesday - Students to complete number tracing activity (laminated sheets for re-use) and then work with teacher to complete mondays activity as a group using concrete materials.

Thursday - Students to complete yesterday's activity but to record the equations on whiteboards

Friday - students to complete previous activity, now recording equations in workbook.

Triangles and Squares

Wednesday - students to complete a basic facts to 10 worksheet, using concrete materials in small groups. Students to then roll two dice and record the equations in their books.

Thursday - students to complete Tuesdays activity in pairs as a competition to see who can roll the highest equation each round, keeping a tally of rounds won with counters.

Friday - Working with teacher, students learn how to keep tally marks to keep track of round won during dice game, and then play game first to 5. Can be played as a round robin activity

Whole class lesson: Adding two numbers on a dice. Activity to be modelled by teacher, done as a whole class, and then students to work together in pairs to complete the task. Concrete materials such as teddy bears or counters will be used where necessary for students understanding.

Friday - Students to order number cards to 10, then complete yesterday's activity with single dice and support if needed.

Triangles and Squares

Wednesday - students to complete a basic facts to 10 worksheet, using concrete materials where needed in small groups. Students to then complete yesterday game in shape groups.

Friday - Students to see how many popsticks they can roll during the game, grouping in tens with rubber bands. Teacher to encourage counting by tens to keep track of how many sticks they can acquire. Game to reset at an appropriate number depending on student understanding.

Whole class lesson: Rolling a dice to collect popsticks. Students to group pop sticks in 10s with rubber bands. Activity to be modelled by teacher, done as a whole class, and then students to work together in small groups to complete the task.

Wednesday - Students to complete number tracing activity (laminated sheets for re-use) and then work with teacher to complete mondays activity as a small group.

Thursday - Students to complete yesterday's activity in small group with support.

Friday - students to practice drawing 1 card and finding what number is needed to make 10. Equations are then written on whiteboard to practice number sentences

Triangles and Squares

Wednesday - students to complete a basic facts to 10 worksheet, using concrete materials where needed in small groups. Students to then complete yesterday game in shape groups.

Thursday - students to practice drawing one card and finding what number is needed to then make 10. Concrete materials to be used where/if needed

Friday - Students to see how many combinations they can find to make 10 with the cards. Extend students where appropriate to think about if you could use more than 2 cards to make 10.

Whole class lesson: Pack of cards with face cards removed, students will each draw a card and then find a buddy to make 10 together with their cards. Activity to be modelled by teacher, and then played as a whole class.

Monday Week 5 - students to order number cards to 10 then practice drawing 1 card and finding what number comes afterwards using the ordered number cards

Wednesday - students to complete a basic facts to 10 worksheet, using concrete materials where needed in small groups. Students to then complete number after worksheet in shape groups.

Friday - students to complete number after worksheet in groups using ordered number lines to 20

Monday Week 5 - Students to create number after worksheets for each other and then swap and complete. Number lines to be created and used for checking answers.

Whole class lesson: students will assist in constructing a number line, ordering numbers 1-20. Discussion on which number comes after another, and different strategies to figure this out (counting all, counting on, automatic recall)

Numbers will be covered or removed and questions asked again.
