Writers’ Craft EWC4U
Prerequisite: English Grade 11 University
A Grade 12 University English elective
This course emphasizes knowledge and skills related to the craft of writing. Students will analyse models of effective writing; use a workshop approach to produce a range of works; identify and use techniques required for specialized forms of writing; and identify effective ways to improve the quality of their writing.
They will also complete a major paper (creative piece such as, short story, play, movie treatment) as part of a creative or analytical independent study project and investigate opportunities for publication and for writing careers.

Expectations
Students will engage in class discussions, readings, and personal writings to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the craft of writing.
Students will keep a weekly creative writing journal. They will tap into their creative minds and apply the skills through their personal writing.
Students will demonstrate their writing skills through the development of a major writing piece.
Students will collaborate with their peers to produce a class book filled with their own creative writing submissions.
