This month in:
Reading: We will be continuing Module 2, “What a Story”. In this module we will explore the genres Informational Text, Fantasy and Adventure, Realistic Fiction, Plays, and Poetry. We will work on specific strategies around literary elements, synthesis, and author’s purpose. Students will continue to work on response to reading with short response and multiple choice questions. Students will build reading skills using variety of resources including iReady and small group instruction through Guided Reading.
Writing: This month we will continue to work on our 2nd Module, Narrative Stories by learning different ways to tell a story. The purpose of this unit is to write a story about a character who is on a journey to discover something. We will use the structure of a story mountain and narrative elements to guide our writing. We will work on foundational writing skills in phonics and grammar.
Envision Math: In Topic 3, we will learn how to fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers. In Topic 4, we will learn how to use models to multiply decimals. We will continue to support learning with iReady lessons and small group instruction that meet the needs of your child.
Social Studies: We will be continuing the Geography and Early Societies of the Western Hemisphere unit. Throughout the lessons students will be able to address the essential question of “To what degree does geography determine culture?”
Science: We will be continuing Amplify Modeling Matter. In this unit students will investigate a focus question connected to why Red Dye # 75 is harmful. Students will participate in a variety of hands on investigations using materials. We will also begin to prepare for the New York State Science test by working on topics that align with the expectations of the test. For example, we will begin a short unit on Life Cycles.
Homework:
Homework will be given every night. There will be homework for reading and math everyday. The purpose of homework is to reinforce what we learned in school during the day. It is very important to read every night at home. Please be sure to fill out the Reading Log. Each teacher will assign other homework depending on the need of each class.

HMH Lectura: Continuaremos con el Módulo 2, “Qué historia”. En este módulo explicaremos los géneros Texto informativo, Fantasía y aventuras, Ficción realista, Obras de teatro y Poesía. Trabajaremos estrategias específicas en torno a elementos literarios, síntesis y propósito del autor. Los estudiantes continuarán trabajando en la respuesta a la lectura con preguntas de respuesta corta y de opción múltiple. Los estudiantes desarrollarán habilidades de lectura utilizando una variedad de recursos que incluyen iReady e instrucción en grupos pequeños a través de lectura guiada.
Escritura: Este mes continuaremos trabajando en nuestro segundo módulo, Historias narrativas, aprendiendo diferentes formas de contar una historia. El propósito de esta unidad es escribir una historia sobre un personaje que está en un viaje para descubrir algo. Usaremos la estructura de una montaña de historias y elementos narrativos para guiar nuestra escritura. Trabajaremos en habilidades fundamentales de escritura en fonética y gramática.
Envision Math: En el tema 3 aprendimos a multiplicar números enteros ahora en el Tema 4,estaremos multiplicando decimales. Volveremos a practicar las tablas de multiplicación y los distintos métodos para multiplicar.
Estudios Sociales: Continuaremos con la unidad de Geografía y Sociedades Tempranas del Hemisferio Occidental. A lo largo de las lecciones, los estudiantes podrán abordar la pregunta esencial de "¿Hasta qué punto la geografía determina la cultura?"
Ciencia: Continuaremos con Amplify Modeling Matter. En esta unidad, los estudiantes investigarán una pregunta de enfoque relacionada con por qué el tinte rojo n.° 75 es dañino. Los estudiantes participarán en una variedad de investigaciones prácticas utilizando materiales. También comenzaremos a prepararnos para el examen de Ciencias del Estado de Nueva York trabajando en temas que se alineen con las expectativas del examen. Por ejemplo, comenzaremos una unidad breve sobre ciclos de vida.
Tareas
La tarea se dará todas las noches. Habrá tarea para leer y matemáticas todos los días. El propósito de la tarea es reforzar lo que aprendimos en la escuela durante el día. Es muy importante leer todas las noches en casa. Asegúrese de completar el Registro de lectura. Cada profesor asignará otras tareas dependiendo de la necesidad de cada clase.
