Kagan Structures and the Civics exam

Background
Problem
-Student engagement
-Especially when it comes to a very repetitive task, such as the nature of my study.
The problem that I am currently having deals with student engagement and performance.
What will be tested
The effectiveness of Kagan Structures as a review tool for the required naturalization exam.
How will this be tested?
First Period | Third Period |
Serve as a control | Will only use KAGAN structures to review for the exam. |
How will this be tested?
Serving as a control group, 1st period will be reviewing the content as normal.
This will include but not limited to blooket reviews, bellworks, and gallery walk reviews.
How will this be tested?
3rd period will only use kagan structures to review the material.
How will these claims be tested?
Students will take a weekly check in test for the Civics ?’s up until they take the required civics exam in March. These weekly check in test will be used as data points along the way
How will these claims be tested?
The true test will be in March, with summative data from the Naturalization Exam
My hypothesis is that my third period will score higher than my first period due to the fact that third period will be more engaged in the review activities.
So what happened?
Following a prolonged absence from school due to snow, we took the civics exam.
Students were given the exam in three portions on three separate days. ���Students were tested under roughly the same conditions.
So what happened?
Was this what I expected?
-Somewhat.
-In general, my students performed virtually the same except for one category, in which the kagan group performed 5 percent better.
-This can be due to a variety of factors that will be discussed in future slides.
The results and what happened
-Students performed almost identical except in one category.
-The key thing however is noticed behavior and student feedback.
