Part 1: Games Review

Summer Task: Games Review

Produce a 600-800 word review on a game for any platform for GAMER magazine. . Your review must be aimed at people who read gaming magazines and you should include examples; specific features within the game & images to illustrate your points.

Make sure you include an introduction to what the game is about, a main body including detailed review of the visual style and gameplay, a final summary of the game’s good/bad points and include a score (visuals, gameplay and overall game) for the game.

Think about if the game is fun or different (compared to other games of its type). Does it make you go back and play it again and again or spend lots of time (and money) on the game? Why/Why not?

You could also compare the game to some of its competitors in the same genre.:

Is it as good as the other game(s)? Choose some specific parts of the game to compare the visual style and gameplay: e.g avatar design & customisation, play modes, game world, game mechanics, weapons, levelling up system, etc

Walk Cycles

2-Frame Walk Cycle

  • For characters up to 24 pixels high
  • The two-frame was used in the original NES games.
  • The two frames generally show the legs apart and the legs close together.
  • The viewer actually sees four frames of animation.
  • The key is to make sure that neither leg looks like it's closer than the other one.

8-Frame Walk Cycle

  • For characters up to 32+ pixels high
  • Focus on one leg at a time and mirror the movement
  • Consider knee and foot functions.

Summer Task: CV

The following 2 slides show a short, succinct CV for a games graduate attempting to enter the Industry. The employment section has purposefully been removed for this reason. For your summer task, you need to write your OWN CV, as you currently imagine it would be. You can tweak the layout and structure but must consider the skills, qualifications and experience you would like to see on your CV when you graduate from University. Obviously this is likely to change and adapt, but it is important to consider the destination before you begin your journey.

Hobbies and Interests

I am passionate about gaming outside of work and play competitive games in my free time. I have recently begun working towards earning my pilot’s license and try to get flight hours when possible around my work schedule. I also volunteer regularly at music venues in town as an usher.
